  • D2 Baseball championships - WCU

West Chester has themselves in the NCAA D2 semifinals. It's a double-elimination tournament and WCU is the only team with 0 losses in their bracket. They will play the winner of Central Missouri and UT-Tyler, both which have 1 loss. WCU's next game is Wednesday. If they win, they will go to the finals. If they lose, they will play an elimination game on Thursday.

The other bracket is a little more unsettled. Today (Monday), the Catawba Indians play Bentley in an elimination game while UTampa and Point Loma play in a battle of 0 loss teams.

Nevertheless, WCU is the #1 seed and needs just 1 win to get to the finals.

I love hearing other schools still use the nickname Indians. LOL

Its semantics, but Catawba got a pass because everything around their region is named for the Catawba people - and they had the support of the Catawba nation to testify at their NCAA appeal hearing. That's the rub for IUP - unfortunately, they're not named after anyone to support them. Maybe if PA hadn't wiped out its only reservation for a reservoir, IUP could have maybe found an ally.

If I remember right, part of that ruling was also that Catawba has to refer to themselves as the "Catawba Indians" in all contexts, and can't just use "Indians".

The Walk Ons have been rolling so far…

It would be kind of funny if the Pee Sack won the Natty in 2 of the three biggest men’s sports. The Midwest and Southern fanboys will have to choke on it.

Yes and they had to minimize any imagery. They went from an arrowhead with the Chicago/Cincinnati styled C to a rather traditional block C as their logo. That's it.

And it would be the third national championship for West Chester baseball in the past 15 years (2012 and 2017).

About the only team to have had WCU's number was Ship, which took three of four from them. But they're down 5-1 to Texas-Tyler in the third today.

Rams have a number of players who would be quite comfortable in the Big Ten or similar surroundings.

It's actually tied at 2-2 after 5 innings. I think you were looking at the hits column.

Middle of the 8th and WCU has taken a 6-5 lead with a 4 run 8th.

WCU pulls out a 6-5 win to advance to the finals. Will play either Tampa or Catawba. Catawba needs 2 wins since Tampa has not been beaten.

The Pee Sack put teams into the finals in three of the four biggest finals in D2…both basketball tournaments and now Beisbol.

West Chester had done a good job to get to the final in a sport where Southern teams have an obvious advantage. Give the league's geographic footprint, there shouldn't be any reason why we can't be competitive in basketball. Pa. and the surrounding states produce some good hoopsters. Hope the Rams can bring another championship in.

They opened at Harford CC (a really nice ballpark) against IUP on Feb. 20, a late start for most PSAC clubs. But then they did make the southern swing like most PSAC contenders. They went to Cary for a weekend series ... a really great move for a team with hopes of returning there in June.

                              Success begets success.
