Wayne State is higher than expected. That win over Augustana helped them a lot but that loss to Northern State is an eye sore.

Question over on the LSC side is if Angelo State can get in over a 2 loss NSIC team.

Angelo State losses to opponents are a combined 23-1 (Mines, UTPB, CW).

Judging from this list it looks unlikely.

The rest of the top 7 looks pretty straight forward and should resolve itself the last 2 weeks.

Thoughts: if it were to somehow stay just like this, there will be road victories.

11/11/23 will be an interesting week. Kato and Duluth, Bemidji and Augie, UTPB and Central Wash.

Interesting....didn't expect to see WSC that high.

I wonder if a one-loss NSIC team can sneak into a home game in place of the Central Washington UT-Permian Basin loser?

Also with Duluth outside the top-10, it would seem that even a 2-0 finish, which includes a win over Mankato, may not be enough.

              To the first point: definitely.

To the second: their SOS will still be pretty low (~.450), so they probably do need some help.

And sadly that will likely result in a conference rematch. I've tried looking at ways to get either Mankato or Augie to work going to Pitt or Central Missouri. But there isn't a reasonable swap to bring a SR3 team back without adding a flight.

Would be a shame for these young men to have to play a conference opponent a 2nd time.

Minnesota State has the best chance round 1 but that will be it if they play Mines second round. The other teams have been blown out of the water on the road the last several years.

So for all the talk of nonconference games, UMD will actually be penalized because they scheduled a really bad Northern Michigan team to start the season. I would've liked to see the Bulldogs have a tougher OOC opponent, but this scenario doesn't exactly encourage the NSIC to keep OOC games once we are back to an even number of teams.

Agreed. I think a 2-0 finish for UMD will not be enough to get them in. Had they beat Wayne or BSU then lost to Mankato the same 9-2 record would have gotten them in the playoffs. Morale of the story is if you beat up on weaker competition it does nothing to get you ready to play the upper tier teams and only hurts your SoS come playoff time. Will make it even more difficult when Jamestown gets in and a team gets an even weaker schedule than UMD had this year.

Not winning games penalizes a team more than scheduling a weaker OOC opponent.

Exactly. Had they beaten Bemidji, Bemidji would be on the outside looking in.

I mean, if we’re judging solely on previous years, then how many playoff games has UTPB won?
