I'm not necessarily saying he's the next great Mustang QB (heck, he's not even for sure coming to SMSU), but there's probably some crossover between the system he was recruited to play at Minot and the offense Cunha installed at Southwest. It's at least important to have decent depth that can come in and run your system.

Well, based on what I saw - he got 3 offers. Wazzu was cool, but clearly just a courtesy with no real chance at playing time.

Which means it came down to MSUM or ISU. Might as well try your luck in the FCS at that point.

It seems pretty easy to understand. Hansen may like to throw the ball as a QB, Minot is not going to throw the ball. They are an option team.

I wonder if SMSU offered him now too. I think they did before he went to Minnesota

I always assumed he would play baseball when my kid played against him in HS football and baseball. He was a good SS and pitcher

Possible Reason for 2 ISU RB jumping in the portal:

2023 Idaho State offensive yards average per game:
Passing Yards 337—. Season: 507 passing attempts
Rushing Yards 60—. Season: only 118 carries by RB=2.9 average per carry. Over 100 rushing carries by QBs
interesting choice for him given he was guaranteed 20 carries a game in Marshall - hope it works out for him. he was a good player for us.

There are SO MANY reasons for wanting to transfer, other than just chasing a D1 dream. Personally, and I know I’m an idiot..ha, I transferred because of my then girlfriend. Some kids want to play. Some were lied to by the coaches. Some want to win more than 1-3 games per year. Some want to get out of the climate. Some have family reasons. Some do it for academic reasons…on and on. And certainly, some are chasing the dream. And others just want that recruiting attention again!

College coaches are now more like ‘real world’ managers than ever before. You can put a ton of time and resources into finding a candidate to fill your open position (recruiting), and then developing them (training, etc) only to see them leave for another job. Scholarships are year to year contracts.
    good post.

I think we all acceot there are many reasons they enter the portal.

it is important to remember that 60% who enter the portal never play again. The most common thing is a kid is unhappy, transfers, goes to new school and either quits or doesn't even show up. That is more common that a kid who portals, transfers and contributes

Gotcha, thanks for the update. He was originally offered a PWO - that's what I was going off of.

I had him going to MSUM, so I was a bit surprised to see he picked Idaho State - but now it makes sense.
