thanks for the clarification. we are nowhere near 36. Our adminsitration sucks so bad. the president doesnt care about football.
SMSU has always had a proud tradition of terrible administration. Connie Gores was able to squash any momentum Sauter had going, like the previous president did to Eidsness.
Crazy that we're on what our third, fourth president since the stadium was built?
Not really, I mean the building is 16 years old already and presidencies don't last very long. In fact, three of the four longest serving presidents have been in office since the REC opened - and there was an interim in there too.

SMSU alumni are a bizarre group of people who love to complain. During the height of the Sauter years - they whined about the shape of the school and the enrollment trajectory. Now that those two things are improving (for now), they're upset not only by football, but by the fact things are getting better. It's borderline masochism.
The community itself can only solve problems through either a) begging Walz for money or b) skyrocketing everyone's taxes into the stratosphere - which neither of those things will help with winning a football game. I mean, it didn't help the local hockey team at all. Yikes.
I think most alumni would love to see the school run by local folks, like small business owners - but if that were the case, the school would close faster than I can shout Yelloh!

I'll be honest, my understanding of higher education leadership in general is limited, but I figured that in general most presidents would last 10-20 years at least. Maybe that's completely wrong, or just specifically unrealistic at a campus like Southwest.

Yeah, they don't last very long. Forbes says it's roughly a 6-year average tenure.
I'm sure there's a lot of factors that go into it. MSU had Davenport for roughly 20 years, but that's very unusual - especially over the last 100 years. SDSU's longest all-time is 17 years.

MSU has been fairly lucky in that regard. The presidents I’ve known/been around (starting with Margaret Preska) have mainly been there 10+ years. She and Richard Rush were outstanding presidents.

Yeah, they had a few who stood out with longer tenures. Makes me wonder what they have that other places don't - I mean, SDSU and U of M don't have people that have hung around that long.
