There has been serious concern for some time. AB gave rosy fund raising and enrollment projections in May/June to buy time. HEPC required monthly financial reports and benchmarks to be met. Once it was clear that these goals would not be met, HEPC took action to shut down before start of school. Some stories implied that AB was less than transparent on finances to HEPC, as evidenced by threat of utility shutoff triggering emergency meeting by HEPC last Friday.

It will probably be tricky to find a team to come in here this late -- especially since they'd normally get two games out of the trip.

My hunch will be Joe will end up scheduling PSU-Altoona again as a fill-in (or some similar D3 opponent). Most schedules are locked in by now.

Not saying one way or another on whether Carey is right for the job, but just the circumstances seem a little odd to me when it definitely looks like Todd wants to make a change at every level of athletics.
From what I heard, (1) the players really like Carey and went to bat for him, and (2) Todd really thinks highly of him.

Tom had that program going in the wrong direction. The talent cupboard was getting thin. His players weren't developing. His recruiting was going down hill. Cal pretty much owned him. I think he knew it and jumped ship last July. Maria Cerro looked like a bust under Tom but turned in to a star under Carey.

Carey had a pretty good record last year with a team that had zero depth. Reality is his record should have been at least 2-3 wins better. It really wasn't his fault that team would miss 14 layups a game. He wasn't perfect by any means but I'll chalk that up to growing pains.

Tom was great at saying all the right things. Carey doesn't say much. They are total opposites in that regard. Tom was great at kissing babies and shaking hands. Carey may come out of his shell a bit this year. He got these big transfers signed.

He's going to have night and day better talent this year -- and much more of it. He's added some very talented, proven D2 players -- especially underneath. His two star guards need to co-exist a little better this year. But, that's a different discussion.

He's signed a stellar class of impact transfers. They should be dramatically better this year.

Gannon has two games with Salem and then a pretty easy field for the Gary Miller- smarter scheduling than what they did last year. Should be four wins right there.

Looks like Hurst is playing in that Small College Basketball Classic, as well as the Clarion Tournament for what would normally be opening weekend. That's two tough games vs Central Oklahoma and Colorado School of Mines to start the season, especially after losing what they did.

UPJ has interesting matchups with Indianapolis and St Thomas Aquinas. Rest of their OOC they should handle.

I further agree that if an individual is not formally charged there will be no criminal record, but that is where the interview process with the HR professionals comes into play. If they do their job, they will pick up on inconsistencies and holes in the work history (among other things) of an individual. I do stand by my original concern that if you are going to post something of this nature, you better be right as the harm to the individual involved and to his family is unmeasurable.

Now back to basketball, I read in the Trib-Review that Clev Wright of Gannon got a commitment from Olivia Pepple of Penn-Trafford. Was wondering if anyone has seen her play and had any thoughts on her as an addition to the program?

He's a phenomenal D2 coach. If he signed her trust the process.

Everybody thought he'd be the new coach at IUP (with double with his GU salary). Todd elected to ride out his interim.

Redshirt Joe isn't running background checks. That's up to Sutton Hall.

If Joe Blow was never charged with anything, it's not going to show up on any checks.

First, I guess the conclusion is that Joe didn't perform his due diligence before he extended the offer. Secondly, If Cathedral Prep "hid" the situation, how do you know so much about it, but Joe doesn't? Typical.

I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about this situation, but I do know that an adult better be damn sure of the facts before posting something that has the potential to affect another man's career. Maybe the school and the proper authorities investigated the situation and determined there was nothing there, and on that basis the IUP Coach made the hiring decision? Is that a possibility or did Joe just hire a man with issues???
