Ugh ... Haven't posted here. Gannon is an 0-9 team. I knew we wouldn't be very good five minutes that I watched this year. But I didn't expect it to be 0-9. There have been injuries, some bad luck (losing on a banked-in, double-clutch three pointer at the buzzer) and most importantly, some bad basketball. The next three games are one-loss SRU, at three-loss UPJ, and home against #1 IUP. An 0-12 slate is certainly on the table.

I keep hearing that some players will be back and most injuries don't look long-term. The guys that are left are quite young and Kelvin is still searching for the right combination - it seems like he's tried almost every combination mathematically possible.

At least the ladies are good and make it fun to come to the Hammermill, er, Highmark!

I think they'll end under 5 wins this year. Even with players returning. Clancy is only hitting about two 3s a game, they have no good inside players (Forte is solid but inconsistent. Whitley plays outside more often than not. Ragab is just tall.) Maybe Herster was playing through injury and thats why he couldn't make shots. But I just don't see many wins. No veteran leadership, even with missing players as they're young too minus Kent.

My prediction is 3 wins and I think that's being nice. There don't appear to be many easy games in the West. Maybe some wins against Clarion, maybe Edinboro, maybe Cal (doubtful).

Nope. No idea what's wrong either. Herster missed most of last season with undisclosed injury and now has missed most of the beginning of this season. Lucarotti played every game starting most and now is hurt. The D1 transfer has only played in one game (in the middle) and is out again. I'm curious to know how brutal these practices are that everyone is constantly getting hurt

What usually happens is the player is already in the States -- typically enrolled at some basketball factory 'prep school'.

Jacobo Diaz was one of the only ones I know of that IUP actually recruited from overseas. Granted, there was a connection that introduced the two parties.

I think Fite thinks anything outside the WPIAL is foreign land. Lol.

But, he's done well. Freaking Carlos Carter is from Indiana. That still annoys me. It still baffles me IUP didn't recruit him (at all). Biss is another one ... he grew up about 20 minutes from the KCAC.

I dunno. Johnson is from Philadelphia and he has had a couple of other good players from out there. I think Trey Martin from nearby Boiling Springs will be a good one for us in a year or two. Fite being a western Pa. guy himself and having been involved with IUP, I think it's natural for him to look out there. I do think he might have to expand his horizon in the future, certainly in the coming year when he'll probably have his biggest recruiting challenge since his rookie year at Ship. Hey, there's only about 13-15 guys on the average basketball team, so IUP can't get all of them.

And speaking of annoyance, it didn't escape notice that your football team had some pretty good guys from our district (Ridley and the Housers for a start) that a 5-6 Ship team certainly could have used this year. :-)

Looked as if Clarion had a couple of kids injured. Depth has killed Ship as well this season, but Friday night was the first time they've had a real breather in a while and were able to give the bench kids considerable minutes. It probably was a confidence-builder for Mike Dunn, who scored 10 in limited minutes. Satchel Ball did a nice defensive job on Jarmon — definitely limited his chances. I noticed Clarion had two kids from Africa, another from Panama, and another from Germany. I'm beginning to wonder if Ship is one of the only teams in the PSAC without foreign players.

* Expected IUP to win but not like that. Millersville is lucky that wasn't a 50 burger. Dallis Dillard situation needs clarity. Not to knock the Marauders but I have no idea how that team beat up Mercyhurst.

* Expected SRU to lose, but, again not like that. ESU's press will always cause issues but SRU had a week to prepare and looked totally lost. They had stretches they couldn't even get the ball in bounds.

* Kutztown is dangerous. Hanging 92 on Cal is impressive. KU is going to be a tough out in East play. Vulcans still make you work but that final 10-point margin wasn't as close as it appears.

* Expected SH to show a little better at WCU. Rams whipped them in second half.

* UPJ hammered a good Shepherd team. UPJ remains undefeated (8-0) against half-court teams - and 0-3 against pressing teams.

* Gannon gave LH a good fight. The Knights are still without 4 regular players. They are fighting I'll give them that much.

* Mercyhurst as expected smashed Mansfield.

* Edinboro and Bloom was actually an entertaining game.

* Clarion played a strong first 18 minutes and then got smoked the next 22 minutes. Depth kills them. Carlos Carter got red hot and they had no answer.

Depends whether Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde shows up for Ship. Raiders are a strange team this year. Warriors' depth might create problems for them.
