  • Former Lock Haven guard Justice Shoats started for Siena against Bucknell in Wilkes-Barre last night and scored 19 points. Interesting to note his coach McNamara is also from Wilkes-Barre which may explain how Shoats ended up at Siena. I didn't know McNamara left Syracuse to coach Siena.

    • He was a heckuva player at Lock Haven. Given the way the East looks this season, Lock Haven might have been one of the favorites if they still had him.

I'd assume if he does well there he'll be the heir apparent for the Syracuse job next time it opens.

Or, of course, some other big program will snag him. He's only 40.

        • The only thing worse than streaming with two still cameras? When neither camera covers the middle 15 feet of the court.

I"m trying to watch Ship on delay, but it's hard to be able to watch it like this.

I flipped it on for about 90 seconds. After the second time the camera wasn't moving from end to end I turned it off.

Well, if you missed it, you missed Ship blowing a big lead and losing by a point. Raiders played a great first half, but the refs were calling a loose game, and it became a CIAA-style street fight in the second half, which favored Bowie. Turning point was probably when, with Ship still leading by six, Donovan Hill caught the ball in a press-break and got a questionable charging call. He then chirped and drew a technical, giving him four fouls and putting him on the bench for several key minutes. He had been playing a nice game up until then. Bowie pressed and mugged our guys a lot of the game. I thought most of the calls on Ship were legit, but at one point in the second half Ship had seven fouls to Bowie's four, which given they were playing a much more physical game than Ship was kind of ridiculous.

Oh well there were some good things to come out of tonight such as some nice minutes from our freshmen guys, but in the end it's probably at least the second loss this year that should have been a win.

              • Big statement win by ESU Men last night. On a night when Lakeem McAliliy got into early foul trouble, JR F Nasir Griffin came off the bench to score 24 points, pull down 8 rebounds, and added needed punch when their offense needed it. Griffin hit 2 3-pointers too, showing impressive shooting range. ESU was down by 3 at the half, but came out of the locker room with one of their patented scoring runs. This one was 15-0 ESU and they never looked back. This team is coming together nicely. Their 7-foot Sudanese F Lual Manyang got some floor time at the end of the game, delighting the crowd!!

                • Big statement?

                  Molloy is 1-6.

                  What am I missing here?

They are a very good 1-6 team. Deadly 3-point shooters and guys who can create their own offense as well. Usually a team like that gives ESU trouble, and for the 1st half it was a very even contest with Molloy leading by 3. As I wrote earlier, they came back without their best player on the floor because of foul trouble. He only played 13 minutes. It was a big statement win in my opinion, I never said it was your opinion too. Remember there are 6 new faces on this team this season. That's a lot of players who need to learn how to play together in a relatively short period of time. They acquitted themselves well last night.

Just stop! That team is terrible. Your bull**** isn't going to get your 5 loss team into the NCAA's.

I can't believe how much of an arrogant piece of **** you are. To say a win against a terrible team is a statement win just shows how unknowledgeable you really are about the game of basketball. Statement wins against teams like that are way ESU stayed home with 5 losses last year!

                          • Pretty fun first half at Heiges as Shippensburg faces Ryan Smith.

UPJ 42, Shippensburg 40 at the break. Smith, who I've liked for most of a decade, has 22. :Markus Frank has only six points, but Donovan Hill has 12 and 12 boards.

                            • Well, that was something. UPJ 91, Ship 86.

'Cats play Ship off its feet for the first nine minutes of the second half, build a 73-54 lead. Then the Raiders work their way back to the point where they had a shot at a 3-pointer to tie with eight seconds left. But Jaydon Smith has his foot on the sideline as he takes the pass beyond the arc.

Much of Ship's comeback comes courtesy of freshman David Dorsey, who has his breakout game with 17 points off the bench. Frank has to rally to finish with 10; fellow starter Trey Martin had 10 points fewer than that.

Smith finishes with 27 for UPJ.

                              • West Chester overcame a 6-point deficit at the half and wound up outscoring Cal 46-23 in the 2nd half to win by 17. Cal went cold in the 2nd half, going 2-14 from 3 ville, after hitting 6 of 12 in the 1st half. Conversely, West Chester shot nearly 10% better from the floor in the 2nd half and went 5-10 from beyond the arc after going just 2-10 in the first half. Cal comes to the Poconos tomorrow agaiinst a Warrior team that got an extra day's rest.
