  • Josh Omojafo is leaving Robert Morris. He entered the Portal this morning. He has (1) year remaining.

It will be interesting to see where he lands.

Omojafo started 33 of 34 for games for Bobby Mo, averaging 29.9 mpg, 11.4 ppg and 3.8 rpg.

He's going to go up a level (D1 has numerous 'levels'). I'm curious if a 'big' school will come calling.

    • It feels a little odd to see 4/5 of Fairmont's starting lineup in the portal. That's pretty typical for some schools, but Koenig has kept things fairly stable at Fairmont since he got there. Wondering if something is up with Koenig (i.e., is he leaving?). Or is this just the reality of the portal era where even stable programs are destabilized?

I can say with about 99% certainty that is completely false. He might’ve opted not to fill every scholarship, but I’m almost certain he had the full 13 available to him.

Your point about soccer is true, but basketball is a headcount sport. That’s changing next year with the house settlement, but up until this year you either receive nothing or a full scholarship in men’s basketball. I believe volleyball is also a headcount sport in Division I, but I would have to doublecheck.

As far as transitional programs go, we’re talking 10-15 programs in the country. Do you think Bellarmine was playing with a full deck this year? Mercyhurst? Stonehill? UC San Diego? If I was a betting man, I would say all of them were.

Again, I can almost guarantee that every team in the America East, MAAC and Patriot are playing with the full 13. If there is an exception, it would be at most one less, not three or four.
Probably toward the beginning of his tenure. Yeah, their scholarships are just budgeted discounts, but RMU doesn't have much money. Lots of smoke and mirrors there. There are several other years when he started with maybe 10 to 12 but by the end of the season half of them were gone and he's playing walk ons and burning redshirts. It took him a while to figure out how to recruit the right personality. Andy's also calmed down quite a bit. Players quit on he and Rice all the time years ago.

You seem to know a ton about Robert Morris specifically, so I'll defer on that. But there's a difference between running guys off the team or guys quitting on you so you have 9-10 scholarship players in January, and the school making a conscious choice to only fund 9-10 scholarships. I firmly believe that 90% of Division I (at the worst) is playing with a full deck of scholarships.

I know we've debated it before, but the scholarships are just budgeted discounts at pretty much all Division I schools. I will stand on that. Small state schools and/or directionals schools are not generating the revenue to cover all of their athletic scholarships- basketball, football, or the Olympic sports.

          • Cenker Evran / Edinboro

Obviously a massive loss for the Scots. That was a killer for Edinboro to lose him in the last game of the regular season. They'd have been a real tough out in the conference tournament.

Regardless, he's moving on. He had a great year. I'd assume he'll go low-D1.

And get paid of course. D2 is now just a feeder system to lower D1. Lower D1 is just a feeder system to the bluebloods of college basketball.

I can't see him playing low D1. Might make a team, but not play much - does not have the body for it. Unless he goes to Hurst.

College sports are becoming a joke especially the higher the level.

Coach can't even contact the player at that level ... it all goes through Jerry McGuire.

Some of these guys need an agent to negotiate their $1000 stipend.

Lol. Then pay the agent 15 percent.

Agent: I was able to get you a free meal plan at Foster Dining Hall:

                              Player: Thanks, that's great!

                              (Player gets to campus)

Player: Hey, how can I get a free meal plan when that dining hall was knocked down years ago?

                              lol

I can still smell Foster Dining Hall.

Not sure that will ever leave.

What's funny is I remember when Folger was brand new and the hip place to be. Now it's the oldie.
