The GLVC maybe anticipating movement. If any program recruited this move it would be Lewis.

Certainly could have been. I am sure every league commish is anticipating movement. Or they should be if they are not.

The thing is, with SJC closed, UIndy is somewhat on an island, with few real good candidates for GLVC membership or D2 transitioning. The nearby NAIA schools have been discussed elsewhere. None of Indiana's D3 schools currently are likely to see much value in D2, unless it's another public regional campus, and even then the GLVC pretty much ignored the last one to make such a move. Most relatively nearby schools are either in the GLVC already, recently moved from a conference, or are Oakland City. A school like Benedictine is probably about the best UIndy could ask for in a candidate.

One more 2017 athlete post before I quit for the year. Olivia Esbenshade closed out her CU career with a really great third place All-American performance in the 1500m. I wasn't going to post anything about it, mainly because I already posted about CU's two National Champions. But, then I thought - that's been the story of this athlete's career. Olivia would have grabbed more headlines if it wasn't for her training partner winning 4 national titles and breaking D2 records. Olivia was the G-MAC Cross Country Runner of the Year and the Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. She had obtained All-American status as part of a Cedarville relay team earlier, but this (in her final collegiate race) was her first time to gain All-American status individually. So here's to you Ms Esbenshade. You have represented CU well.

William Jewell. Are they staying or moving down? Perhaps I have reading comprehension problems but I am confused

Awesome. Even though CU doesn't have swimming, I'm very happy it appears to be working out for the schools that took this "leap of faith".

The Fall soccer schedules are coming out. Scheduling is certainly an easier task this year. It's not a sport that KWC has excelled in as of late, but they have good student athletes and mature coaches.

There should be good sportsmanship and cooperation between the teams. The expansion of the conference will give the teams an ongoing travel experience that will allow for more awareness of each venue and facilities.

KWC plays on a grass turf soccer field when the games conflict with the Football schedule. Otherwise, they will play on a synthetic surface at Steele stadium, often times under the lights.

I will be curious to see what happens on the Men's side. Only four school sponsor men's swimming, five when Tiffin joins. I would assume there will have to be some sort of associate membership announcement soon.

I just saw OVU women's soccer send out two tweets welcoming some foreign players to the team. I looked up their new signees. Chile (captain of Youth National Team), Columbia, Columbia (a second), Columbia (a third), Costa Rica, Columbia (a fourth). Brazil, Greece (U20 National team). Then, I looked at their current roster. 3 kids from FL, one from NM, one from WV, one from DE. 6 American kids out of 29 players. Pretty eye-opening.

Interestingly, even with all that international recruiting, they did not make the conference tournament last year.

College soccer teams used to recruit foreign players heavily, because a vast majority of High Schools didn't have soccer teams. That is not the case today. The college still brings in a few foreign students, but not many. When I was in college there were some American players, but the best players came from Greece, and Western Europe. One was even from Japan, another from Ghana. There were a lot of foreign students then at KWC. That was when the current President of the college attended as a student.

It's much more difficult today to bring in foreign students for obvious reasons. It would seem to me that OVU tapped into some foundation to bring them in.

KWC also had a number of Iranian students the year before I enrolled. Some town boys came on campus and threw them all out of the second story windows at Massey Hall. One popular Iranian female student was allowed to stay as a student. I'm not sure if she ever went back to Iran.
