The only one of those guys that was going to command significantly more than a first time hire was Harbaugh. And besides Stefanski, I don’t see the appeal in going after any of them. I’d rather take a shot at finding the next McVay or Ben Johnson.

    • In a surprising move, the Steelers have notified the remaining members of Tomlin's coaching staff to say their contracts expire in February and they're free to interview as they please. Makes me believe that this was a mutual decision to part ways with Tomlin.

In related news, Edinboro alum Danny Smith has interviewed with Tampa Bay for their STC position.

Art said he was ready to run it back with Mike next year, and I don’t think he would lie about that, but I can absolutely believe he wasn’t going to extend Mike’s contract and essentially make him earn any more years. And I’m sure Mike wouldn’t be terribly receptive to that arrangement. And with Mike gone I can’t think of a coach on that staff I’d go out of my way to retain.

The franchise needed an enema..it’s long overdue to flush out the whole thing.

My daughter's boyfriend used a good word to describe Tomlin: underwhelming. Not only does Tomlin tend to underwhelm fans with the outcome, but there are a lot of coaches who have joined his staffs over the year, some with big reputations, who leave with underwhelming results. Looking at Teryl Austin. Todd Haley. Matt Canada.

Someone mentioned him and his coaching tree the other day. I had never really thought about that, but I can't think of a single coach who got tabbed for greater things from his staff. That isn't a great look for a long tenured coach I'd think.

Yeah has anyone from his staff gone on to be a head coach?

I’m not 100% certain, but I’m pretty sure no member of his staff was ever hired by another NFL team for an upward move (ie, coordinator to head coach, position coach to coordinator)

That is crazy…even Sirianni has had 3 move into head coaching positions although Gannon just got axed. We here is Philly laugh at that because him scheming for that job during Super Bowl week was one reason we lost to the Chefs/Refs. The other three were the sabotaged field by 200 year old Chefs turf guy, the horse drugs they gave Kermit at halftime for his ankle and of course the refs bailing out Kermit to seal the win.

Am I still bitter that was stolen from Philadelphia? Absolutely. Another forever grudge!

Would Bruce Arians of the Arizona Cardinals qualify? Regardless, a very short list.

You could say Todd Haley, too.

It's hard to say those career assistants were products of Tomlin but technically ...

after he “retired” from the Steelers, Arians spent one season in Indianapolis where he was hired to be the OC but finished the season as interim HC when Chuck Pagano had to leave for cancer treatment. The following year Arians was hired as HC by the Cardinals.

I suppose if you want to give Tomlin a hockey assist on Arians you could
