The PIAA is hiding behind a 1972 statute that required it to accept private schools as members. This may have been more of a racial segregation situation at that time but regardless, it’s still in play today. Removing that statute would allow the PIAA to make changes to how championships are conducted. I think that’s all people want and I haven’t heard many say they wanted non-boundary schools out all together. Once the statue is removed, Bob Lombardi and his cronies wouldn’t have that to hide behind. If they still don’t change it after the statute is removed, at least those seeking change will know exactly what the target is.

So much for being a struggling small school.
Thry seem to be doing just fine.
Aliquippa was expected to win but I imagine the remaining matchups favor the AAU teams.

If Aliquippa can persevere, then there is no excuse as to why Coal Mine Fire High can do the same.

The whataboutism is exhausting. Of course some public schools have more resources than others, but there isn't an easy fix for that. The issue is much larger than PIAA can solve.
This conversation is about private schools and the inherent unfair advantages they carry, specifically at smaller classes. The public school conversation is just a distraction tactic.

Cardinal O’Hara defeats Spring Ford
Imhotep Charter defeats Franklin Regional
That’s now 7 championships for AAU teams and 1 for public schools. The public schools are guaranteed a win in boys 6A so we could be headed for a 10-2 tally. No matter what happens, AAU teams have already won more than half and only Marion Center girls in AA came close to pulling an upset. The others were double digit margins with several complete blowouts.

I'm just wondering ... did the five guys Imhotep Charter put on the floor do something better than the five guys Franklin Regional put on the floor? Did they work harder? Did they hit more camps? Did they play better summer competition?
Tell me, in this age of AAU travel teams, that Imhotep had more of a chance to improve from March to November than Franklin Regional did.
Oh, one other thing. The kid who traveled 1:15 each way to attend Imhotep -- did he do that to improve himself, to improve his chances at future success?
Applaud excellence and the pursuit of excellence once in a while rather than stamping one's foot about the "unfairness" of it all.
Somehow, I don't think the Franklin Regional kids will be crying about this 20 years from now. They'll be proud of being a state runner-up.
And, EyeoftheHawk? Yes, I wrote all that with a completely straight face.Last edited by jrshooter; 03-23-2024, 08:52 AM.

This is a problem being completely overblown because Central and Western PA private schools are doing well against the too many dinky public schools in the same area. Western PA in particular is long overdue for a massive consolidation of schools for a declining population.
Southern Columbia doesn't seem to fall victim to private schools. They just win state title after state title for years and no private school has dominated them.
At least present the problem as it really is instead of saying every private school in every section of the state needs to be punished and banished.

Imhotep Charter has a city-wide lottery system for admissions. There is a waiting list. My question is whether they have a special admissions program for athletes. Does anybody know how that works, or how it really works?

When you do then we can talk....and you did to a degree in this post.
The public/private issue is not a problem everywhere. It is not a problem in Southeastern Pennsylvania. So why should our private schools be punished when they publics can still kick their asses?
