They should play all their sports in Canada. Investing in travel and passports to play in front of 75 people in men's hoops and less in women's is an enormous waste of time. They might make their mark in track and field now and then -- no one is paying attention. Again, if they went total Canadian in all sports tomorrow, many would cheer and NO ONE would care they'd be leaving the NCAA, except for the administrators, who are completely ego driven.

The LSC put them in the spot of not being able to fill out a schedule for the team, so what were they supposed to do?
Come again. How is this the fault of the evil LSC and Texas schools? Did SFU have other options like playing in their own league in Canada or go NAIA to be closer to some US NAIA schools in the Pac NW , etc.? Or even go D2 Indy and play a schedule accordingly? Maybe put the program on ice for the upcoming season to reorganize and move forward? Or play a limited schedule? But totally destroying the program is a self inflicted wound and not one done by the hicks in Texas. Go have a Bud Light now.

This is on SFU with their stupid NCAA-or-bust mentality up north. They should play NAIA or Canadian collegiate. Honestly, playing in Texas isn't feasible for the GNAC schools. They have some decision making to do. I'm keep-football-at-all-costs guy; admins aren't, they're ignorant and don't read the tea leaves and are reactionary not proactive. D2 has been rough on WOU with a few exceptions, we rarely go to nationals in any sport, yet the reason for going NCAA was because they pay for national travel. We recruit California more than Oregon -- except track and field and all they do is win. For WOU, D2 is a chest-pounding ego thing, that's all. It's not about local athletes, community, building a fan base, etc. It's about chest pounding, "We're D2 and EOU and SOU aren't." Ego-driven losing formula if I've ever seen one. Our semi-new prez comes from the RMAC/D2, he won't budge on this or think it through. He's our 5th prez in a decade as is our A.D., not a lot of reason to listen to them until they prove that they can stay at the institution and make smart decisions.

                    Well, this is interesting.

Future of Simon Fraser football to play out in Vancouver courthouse

An application for a court order to reinstate the program will be filed, claiming breach of contract on behalf of seven current SFU players acting as plaintiffs.
                    ...
The seven plaintiffs are said to represent a mix of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Most are Canadian; at least one is American. The team’s website lists 59 Canadians, 17 Americans, two Australians and one player each from Congo and Japan on the 2023 roster.

Once the application is filed and SFU administration personnel have been served with the action, the scene will be set for a potential legal battle to rescue a football program that was founded in 1965 and has produced a plethora of past and present Canadian Football League players, including Lemar Durant, Lui Passaglia and Dave Cutler, Glen Suitor and Dan Ferrone.

“If the court considers it appropriate, it will order the reinstating of the program, plus all the other accoutrements that go with it,” said Orris. “I’m assuming that Simon Fraser, if the order goes to reinstate the program, they will in good faith do that. So I’m not suggesting we need more orders, but if we do, then we’ll get them."

“Simon Fraser could come to court and oppose our application and if they are unsuccessful, they could certainly appeal it. It wouldn’t stop the order. An appeal doesn’t stop the order. The order will go ahead regardless of an appeal.”
SFU officials, including president Joy Johnson and athletic director Theresa Hanson, announced the immediate termination of the program on April 4.

I hope the players win. It would be fun to see rhe LSC join them. I mean, SFU breached it's 2 year contract with the LSC.

However, the LSC teams can't sit around waiting on court battles. They need to fill empty game slots. So, even if players win, they might not have games in 2023 because of its admin.

This needs to be an emergency hearing!!!!

                          • Finally a college administration might get what it deserves, wish in the U.S. schools like WWU, Azusa, and Humboldt, were taken to court by players. This is beautiful. These admins have been wielding their power with an iron fist for decades, destroy a program here and there, they skate by with their 6-figure salary, while the players, coaches, managers, fans, and alums, are stuck with nothing. These so-called eggheads gave no other options to anyone, not D2 independent, NAIA, or Canadian collegiate. No thought process, just greed. This would be beautiful if the players won.

I just hope if they do win they give up on flying to Texas, work out agreements with CWU and WOU even if they're playing Canadian collegiate, and help keep small college football semi-alive on the West Coast.

                            • Coaches and industry experts think that Mary Hardin-Baylor has the facilities and roster to make a move to FCS. However, finances and the NCAA are two obstacles that the Cru would need to overcome.

                              • Yep beat me to it.

Thats a heck of a jump having to provide 63 athletic scholarships.

Sul Ross will be interesting enough how many scholarships they are able to offer at the D2 level and how short they will fall from 36.
