Should Jamestown be accepted into the NSIC?

Basketball and Hockey are likely prioritized in a full D1 move. Wrestling might be cooked, unfortunately. Women's sports are more or less untouchable unless they would want to swap hockey for something cheaper like bowling. Realistically they just add a few women's sports like lacrosse and bowling and get the scholarships up that way since we take our olympic sports very seriously. And I wonder if we would improve in basketball by being only the 2nd D1 public university in this state. But none of this will happen unless the summit football league forms and they need members and the whole superleague thing clears up.

I wish that DII-A football division became a thing. Maybe let it include the PFL and NEC and other barely-funded FCS teams as well.

This would be something that actually makes sense. Kinda of a catch-weight division. It’s been discussed on here before and I think many feel it’ll someday be the case. With all of the realignment focused nearly solely on football, this could potentially happen sooner than later.

My context is back when the merger happened and shortly thereafter. At that time there were many posts by Augie and Mankato fans about slumming rather than going D1 - that was a long time ago to be fair but that is my comment and context.

I didn't mean to compare it to the addition of Jamestown, but I can see how that could be the perception.

There were fake congratulatory posts about Augustana winning the "next five NSIC football championships," but I believe they were made by USD and UND fans, not MSU or Augie supporters.

We are somehow too financially rough to move up which I don't understand. We are top 5 in size in D2 and plenty of southern schools with less funding are D1. Hell ULMs athletic budget is less than ours currently. We definitely have above average fan support for D2 and have experience running a highly competitive D1 program in hockey. And many olympic sports nattys to go along with it. 7500 is enough capacity but obviously we will need a new pressbox like what UMD has.

It's futile to make real comparisons between northern and southern schools re. enrollment. I've learned that over the years. Enrollments are typically larger in northern schools versus southern schools.

We've gone over this before, but because of laws supporting those with disabilities, MSU will never have an improved press box without building almost an entirely new stadium.

This is 100% fact. The current stadium is grandfathered in. They can't just fix the press box- they also have to put in an elevator. It is either build a new stadium- which the president said they want done by 2028- or nothing. He said that they have the donors.

Interesting. The stadium itself is pretty good. I would think they could use up some of the seating at the top with an expanded pressbox, but I am not an engineer.

It would be interesting if there were some Jamestown posters on here so we could gage their excitment or lack thereof. I suppose they will get here eventually. Will be interesting to see how Jamestown does in the NSIC

I would also like to know if any current member opposed Jamestown joining. Despite public wrangling, I am under the impression it was unanimous -- I don't know that, just my sense.

It made me think of the South Carolina Gamecocks Williams-Brice stadium, where "if it ain't swayin, we ain't playin!" Evidently there were some structural problems. Sitting in my Bob Uecker seats in front of the press box I wondered if I'd have to surf my way down in a collapse. I may need some of your special expertise.

did not know that. Interesting. I always like the games there but I suppose it may be showing its age
