A small NAIA school wanting to move up to join our league better have a hell of a resume. Jamestown does not.

Easiest decision on NSIC membership outside of "Should St. Cloud and Crookston be removed from the NSIC?"

I'm voting less on "Should Jamestown be part of the NSIC" and more on "Should the NSIC remain at an odd number of teams so we can have out-of-conference games."

I was actually going to add that as a 3rd option… figured we’d keep it simple.

Minot is twice the size and joined the league in 2012, when the league was looking to expand.

Sioux Falls is closer in size. But they also had a resume (in football at least).

Resume should matter more than enrollment, IMO. I'm not advocating for kicking out Minot by any means, and I'm rootin' for the Red Beavers up there in Southern Canada, but... they haven't exactly been competitive despite their enrollment.

I'd maybe understand it if we weren't a small college conference, but (imo) a college of 5,000 and a college of 2,500 are going to be a lot more similar than a college of 5,000 and a college of 10,000.

I agree that resume should matter more. Enrollment can be a factor for viability of the school, though. And ability to maintain an athletic department.

Another comparison closer to Sioux Falls is both private. Minot is a state university. Not that it matters at all, just another comparison point. Again, night and day resumes though (again, at least in football). And many of us were tricked into thinking football was a foundation sport and required to be in the conference. Thus, making it important athletically. *cough* St Cloud/Crookston *cough*

You’ve been in school long enough now to understand that students are resources, haven’t you?? :)

Minot was admitted on the back of USF, to make an even number when the conference was looking for stability.

Now the conference commissioner is saying we're comfortable at 13/15. Is that just blowing some, who knows? The point being, it's different circumstances

My "no" is more of a "not right now". I've kind of come down on the side that maybe its best to see where things shake out in the next few years. If things remain stable and the NSIC is still looking for a team in 3-5 years, the Jimmies don't really have a better D2 option than the NSIC and I'm quite certain would be happy to join at that time as well.

I did this a few years back and while I was looking at it from the lens of where my Cougars have landed, I think it's appropriate to dig back up and update. Below is the NSIC All-Sports Standings since USF and Minot joined the league in 2012. I get this is a football board, but Stanger is right, the decision being made by the administrators is so much more than that.
                            • USF has always been in the top half finishing as high as #3 in 2018-2019 and no lower than 7
                            • Minot 's best finish was 11th in 2018-2019
                            • The other most recent NAIA call up is Mary. After years of hovering in the middle of the pack, finishing as low as 12th. Post-pandemic Mary has been 4 twice. Interesting.
                            • Side note: Despite Bemidji's football success I was shocked to see them so low in this year after year.
Feel free to analyze and cherry pick stats as you see fit but it's interesting to take a look at the numbers and envision where the Jimmies could potentially slot as previously discussed. Does looking at all the schools commitment to all sports over a decade plus reveal that we should even add another school?
