Below is the NSIC All-Sports Standings since USF and Minot joined the league in 2012. I get this is a football board, but Stanger is right, the decision being made by the administrators is so much more than that.
    • USF has always been in the top half finishing as high as #3 in 2018-2019 and no lower than 7
    • Minot 's best finish was 11th in 2018-2019
    • The other most recent NAIA call up is Mary. After years of hovering in the middle of the pack, finishing as low as 12th. Post-pandemic Mary has been 4 twice. Interesting.
    • Side note: Despite Bemidji's football success I was shocked to see them so low in this year after year.
Feel free to analyze and cherry pick stats as you see fit but it's interesting to take a look at the numbers and envision where the Jimmies could potentially slot as previously discussed. Does looking at all the schools commitment to all sports over a decade plus reveal that we should even add another school?

That's fair. I wasn't following the NSIC until 2013, so I probably shouldn't be speaking on it.

Great context. 4life mentioned this on the previous thread. USF was winning the GPAC all-sports award when we moved up. The Jimmies are not.

I cannot speak to however Minot and Mary did in the DAC with Mines and BH for comparisons there.

But not surprisingly, schools that made/make efforts to be competitive remain so. The Mary/SD Mines commitment after years meh isn't the standard for call-ups.

Further history. I’ll just post the link rather than all the tables, but 7th is kinda the ceiling lately.

Outside of football and women's soccer, Bemidji has really struggled. Bemidji can be really hard to recruit to, especially on the women's side of things.

On the men's side, it is easier because of all the outdoor activities (hunting, fishing) close by. When I was teaching, conversations would come up about schools students were looking at, and on the men's side, Bemidji would get looked at because of this. On the women's side, it was hardly ever looked at due to the lack of things to do. Fargo, Grand Forks, Duluth and the Cities were the places being looked at.

                    I'm a "yes " vote all the way !

                    1. They are likely to be as good or better than UMC in every sport except baseball to start out - and UMC was decimated by transfers this year in baseball so who knows. By the way, Gust is a great coach.

                    2. Did you know UMC offers 4 Men's sports ? Once you start looking at this it's amazing. What a joke. If the league is willing to let UMC drop football and offer 4 sports, how is adding Jamestown a step down? It isn't.

3.St. Cloud is very poorly run and hemoraging in every way and dropped football. Near as I can tell Jamestown is way more stable. Lots of sports, including football. Nice facilities. Nicer than St. Cloud for the most part.

                    4. And Jamestown is a nice town. No reason it can't be a good addition.

                    5. Not a bad trip for anyone but maybe Winona and Wayne and Duluth. Yeah would suck for UMD, but so what. Long ways for Winona and Wayne, but almost all 4 lanes.

                    6. Near as I can tell solid alumni base.

                    7. I agree they are small and there are negatives too, but overall, they are better than some current members for sure.

I think everyone here is in agreement UMC and SCSU should be removed from the conference, the comparison to me is moot. Now if they were removed, I'd be more interested in Jamestown. Not sure it would turn me to a Yes vote, but I'd be more willing to listen to the conversation.

When I toured BSU, I remember one of the students that spoke was telling us how great it was being close to St. Cloud, unironically. She then backtracked a bit when the crowd laughed - said that it's not "that far" in relation to where we where, and sometimes you gotta drive if you want to see a bigger area.

Being close to StC was not a draw for me with BSU. Being far away from StC would be a bigger draw for me to BSU, honestly.

Also went to my first hockey game on that trip.

I never noticed and this is quite surprising to me.

One of Presentation Colleges biggest issues keeping a 5th mens sport. When we switched to NCAA it was a REQUIREMENT to field five mens and five womens teams which is why we were pulling kids from classrooms just to field a team. So unless things have changed, UMC is going to be finding their way down to NAIA soon

                            6. Near as I can tell solid alumni base.

                            7. I agree they are small and there are negatives too, but overall, they are better than some current members for sure.
This sounds much more like an argument AGAINST Crookston and St Cloud than FOR Jamestown. Which, I can get behind. Ha

But it still doesn’t provide a ‘why’. 6 is clearly a guess.

Bottom of page 25 in the NCAA Division II manual says as much still. Unless hockey counts as an NCAA sport for them but I thought they were just a club (The way hockey is organized makes no sense to me)

They do not sponsor NCAA Hockey, so that is curious.
