At UMC? Hockey was a DIII sport until 2009, then was discontinued. Now they play ACHA hockey which the NCAA likely doesn't care about, regardless of if it's club or varsity.

It's one reason I want them to transition to DIII is so they can bring hockey back.

I took a screenshot but it tells me I can't upload it.

I wish it was easier to upload things from mobile. Anyways, anyone can take a look and it spells it out.

Click d2 manual, scroll down to page 25 (on the sheets, not the slide)

If the NCAA cared about ACHA hockey at UMC, they'd also care about ACHA hockey at BSU/MSU/Gooferville/SDSU - etc, and I highly doubt they do.

It's not about "caring" I was just asking if it was NCAA santictioned, if not, they shouldn't be eligible for NCAA status as is

            I gotcha, sorry for misreading.

No, Crookston does not currently have NCAA hockey.

Small school. Small town. Fewer sports offered. All a recipe to finish lower in the all-sports standings. Perfect example of what I'm trying to say. Everyone is so focused on football, but there's so much more that goes into these decisions.

Something that will be interesting to see is how schools feel about all of the midweek travel added this year for hoops because of the odd number of teams. How much will switching from Friday-Saturday conference schedules to Thursday-Saturday schedules affect things? Not only for the student-athletes, but remember that many of the coaches are teaching as well.

On a quick cursory search, I believe Jamestown offers 7 men's sports and 8 women's sports, if anyone is wondering. Nine current NSIC institutions offer 15 or more sports. UMD, WSU, WSC, SCSU, BSU and UMC do not. Maybe that changes when they move up, but it at least gives a point of reference.

This is off subject, but I will ask anyway. If you do a search on highest crime rate cities in Minnesota Bemidji is #1. My impression is that Bemidji is a nice city nestled in the woods surrounded by clean lakes. What gives?

That's interesting, I'll have to read it further later on but the way I glanced at that it seems to me that it must sponsor 10 sports, unless it's a male/female only school. Then they need 5

This may come off racist (not my intention), but a very high Native population in the region.

                        Ah, like Rapid City, SD.

It’s definitely about more than football. But as provided, they haven’t finished higher than 7th in their all-sport standings in the GPAC. How does that provide a perfect example of them being a good addition?

The nearby reservations are some of the most impoverished areas of Minnesota and it's reflected in per capita crime rates of area communities. Cass Lake is another town that had a huge crime problem, though I think that had to do more with transplants from the Twin Cities area. Also, in my experiences in northern MN - it seemed to me like it was a place where a lot of oddballs would shake out (due to being so secluded) and some notable crimes occurred because of that as well.

That being said, crime statistics should always be taken with a grain of salt - I'd much rather exist in Bemidji than North Minneapolis (or even St. Cloud), but that's personal preference.

I'm from a reservation community and I was also the top student in my American Indigenous Studies program at MSU, so there are my qualifications.

I get what you mean, but it would be more accurate to say that the poverty rates on the nearby reservations is the real cause.

It's a rabbithole that's not really fit for this thread, but that's the jist of the issue. Can be seen in South Dakota as well to a much, much greater extent.
