It must have been the video. In person it was normal.

Fairmont State's video was like that for years. The first time I ever went there I needed sunglasses it was so bright.

Seems like in the new transfer portal era, coaches can no longer build their team to fit their style. And you never know if the transfers you get to replace the transfers you lost are going to match the highlight tape sizzle and which will be busts. Net result is that coaches in this era need to be prepared to make lemonade out of lemons. They need to adapt their style to the players they have and if it means playing a completely different style, coach needs to swallow his ego and do it.

From the record book and comments on this board, that appears to be the situation Joe and IUP find themselves in. He seems to have a collection of players who's particular skills don't match up with Joe's preferred style. At this midway point on the season, Joe needs to look at what he has and figure out a way to win. The question is can Joe swallow his ego and do it??
They are definitely not shadowing WLU style

As far as I can remember, the WLU style thing was one random comment on here that doesn’t appear to have had any basis in reality. If they had everybody they anticipated having, then who knows, but I seriously doubt there was going to be any massive philosophical change regardless.

There’s no need for a massive change. This season is what it is. If (huge if) the team stays together and the guys who missed the season come back, next year should be back to some semblance of IUP basketball.

IUP was never going to play the West Liberty style. One jackass on this board spouted out about it and then has since disappeared once IUP wasn't winning. He's your typical fair weather fan that thinks he's in the know but really isn't. Probably waived to Joe in the Oak Grove and now thinks they are tight.

          • Anybody know if they made the trip to Edinboro yesterday? I see the game isn't PPD (yet).

Travel this morning (for this lovely 3 p.m. game) will be dicey at best.

            • Joe's probably a road dog at McComb today for the first time in 30 years (maybe longer).

The Scots have a pretty deceiving record. Lots of close losses to good teams.

If I was setting the line today I'd probably go Edinboro -3.5 (men's).

The women's game, as usual, will be a war.

              • Joe needs some toughness. They are getting embarrassed.

                      • All the PSAC transfers Joe didn't want just beat the hell out of him. Gotta love the irony.

Joe should be embarrassed. Joe has now hit Tort level.

These are real stats from yesterday:

                              * Edinboro won the rebounding (by a FREAKING whopping) 41-21. I'm not checking, but I would venture to guess no team at IUP in at least 40 years has been out-rebounded by 20.

                              * IUP's strategy to guard the 3PT line was to just have no defender within 9' of any shooter. The Scots ripped them for 13 treys (13-24). No worries. When they did miss, they just obviously got the rebound.

                              * Steve Kelly (Clarion), Michael Dunn (Shippensburg) and Cenker Evran (Gannon) blasted IUP for a combined 58 points. Kelly couldn't miss, and IUP chose to not really guard him. Interesting strategy.

                              * IUP grabbed (4) offensive rebounds - the entire game.

                              * The Hawks shot a dismal 29.63% in the first half

                              * Luke Triggs (3), Alfonso Pickens (2) and Ian Herring (1) combined to score (6 points).

                              * Sarp Furtun had the emptiest stat line a guard can accumulate in (30) minutes - 5 points, 2 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals.

                              * IUP was down by an unimaginable 27 points in the second half. To its credit, IUP did cut the lead down to 12.

                              * In a game IUP was physically mauled, Triggs (their most physical player) played just (5) minutes.

                              * IUP got back in the game (phrase used loosely) by pressing the entire second half. IUP's standard defense was completely destroyed in the first 20 minutes.

They got jumped yesterday. Edinboro had way more intensity to start the game. Joe's two most intense players are in track suits. One of these remaining players has to bring some fire. Rebuilding or not, that was embarrassing for the program yesterday.

I'm not taking anything away from Edinboro. The Scots kicked their as$.

What I'm getting at is there were stretches yesterday when the effort from IUP didn't look too hot. That's alarming. The rebounding numbers speak volumes.

                              • No time to dwell on the negative with GU coming to town tomorrow. It will be telling how they respond after a loss like that. The game of the night will probably be the opener anyhow…
