Another tournament tidbit, Queens College, a regular in the D2 tournament and multiple time Elite 8 qualifier is headed to the Big Dance in their first year of being eligible to participate, winning the Atlantic Sun. I can honestly say I didn’t even know they had moved up.

    • No coaching change at H2P.

      Hilarious

They won't up the coin to get out of Heather's awful contract.

What a joke of a University!

        • Wild finish in KC for the first Big 12 semi. Iowa State drains a three to tie 80-all with 15 seconds left, Arizona goes down the court and one of their guys hits a 17 foot fadeaway at the buzzer with a defender right in his grill.

Some others on here also know folks in the Pitt athletic department. I was told that the buyout money was there but Greene was told to find alternatives. He would prefer to build on Pitt's promising recruiting class and spend heavily in the portal to try to get some momentum. I can't recall exactly but something along the lines of trying to capitalize on the turnover at Syracuse.

I call total b.s. (along with the Pittsburgh media).

Capel being retained ... there cannot be any case for it.

The AD is now just putting out propaganda to defend the corner he's buried in.

I take that back. The reason he's being retained is clearly the buyout and Pitt not wanting to pay it.

That's from a Pitt assistant coach (another sport) I happen to know, so I don't think it's spin. But the unwillingness to pay $15M might be it though. Pitt is a "money in, money out" athletic department. They aren't sitting on mounds of cash.

                • Jerrod Calhoun is going to wind up with a P4 job very soon. If Utah State can win a game or two in the tournament it feels almost inevitable that he’ll be moving on up within a week or so.

Pitt has had a “promising recruiting class” just about every year Capel has been there.

                    • Saw a nice story on a kid who started at Northwest Missouri State and followed McCollum to Drake and now Iowa and now is getting NBA draft looks.

The next class always can't miss.

Until it does. And then they all leave.

Capel has had plenty of time. He's had plenty of time, and the program has become a dumpster.

I had season tickets for three years during the Jamie era. Hottest tickets in town.

I went to a game this year and wanted to leave at halftime. The Pete was as empty per capita as a PSAC gym.

I fully get the money aspect of it. The new AD is stuck.

It's just a shame that incredible run not only fell apart but hit rock bottom.

I was told pretty much the same with some more. I was told that they were prepared to make Jerrod Calhoun their next coach, but he said "no." The same occurred with the guy at South Florida. Those were their top two targets. When those two both essentially turned down the opportunity, the juice was not worth the squeeze to pay the buyout for other viable candidates.

I've also been told by the same individual that the donors who hold all of the cards for basketball have zero interest in paying another cent for Capel. They all dislike him and raised a huge chunk of cash to assist with the buyout. So I'm not entirely sure that those people will be interested in dumping it into the portal for Capel.

I cannot stand Jeff Capel. I've been done with him for years. I haven't watched a single game all year because of how fed up I am with him and what he's done there. But to be fair, this is no doubt an elite and promising class he has coming in. That means absolutely nothing, to be clear. But he's honestly never landed any of these types of guys before. The high school recruits all like him and they all put Capel in their top 3 or 5 as a courtesy, but they all end up going to Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc. in the end. This is the first time he has an entire crew of those types coming in.

Again, I'm not advocating for Capel. I want him gone. But this is truly the first time they've had a legitimately elite class coming in.

I understand their buyout troubles from a financial perspective. But I'm not entirely sure you can afford to KEEP him at this point. You may be costing yourself far more by retaining him.

I suppose there’s no harm in asking, but Jerrod Calhoun is gonna get a much better job than Pitt. It’s just a matter of when.
