IUP can't keep players healthy. Several of us think they have a poor strength and conditioning program. Regardless, Joe goes through this every single season.

A lot of our football players could easily transition. If they wanted to, of course.
I don't know much about it at this point. Don't know if it was planned all along or maybe a result of the increasing number of tracksuits on the Ship bench. Have seen a little video of the kid, and it looks as if he can move a bit, and the added bulk might be nice on the boards. He'll obviously be raw at this point if he does play.

    • Ship does its level best to blow a 19-point second-half lead, but escapes at Mansfield, 82-78.

The Raiders' bench did look very thin. But they still put five guys in double digits, including redshirt freshman Jackson Boone, who scored 10 in 9 minutes of action. Markus Frank takes only seven shots, but Timmy Conner scores 18 and nails some huge foul shots late.

Sterling Scott with 18 for Mansfield, which showed some grit in coming back from 57-38 to 78-78. Ty Crespo scores 10 against his old teammates, and I would expect him to be a regular starter going forward.

I don't know what they do at halftime this year, but it needs to change. The second-half letdowns are becoming a repeated theme for this year's team.

          • ESU escapes The Raider Dome with a split last night. The Women are still very much a work in progress, committing 21 turnovers in a 70-69 loss. The Men forced overtime, and won it 90-87 on an Ethan Millirons 3-pointer. Ship's Marcus Frank scored 33 points after dropping 31 on ESU last February. He's the real deal.

            • Last night's OT loss to ESU was the ninth Ship game decided by six or fewer points this season, and the Raiders have lost six of them, several in excruciating, last-second fashion. Sometimes the margin between a good and not-so-good season is very thin.

The 'prevent defense' usually just prevents you from winning. IUP football fans know that all too well.

I caught the end of the Ship game last night. I thought Fite actually went to a 'prevent offense' there in the final 3 minutes of regulation.

Hindsight, of course, but it seemed like as soon as they started milking clock ESU went on a 6-0 or 8-0 run to tie it up.

Do you think Fite tried to get too cute closing the game out?

Ship's D on the game-winner in OT ... how in the world did they let him get such a clean shot off?

I didn't really think he got too cute at the end of the game. There were a couple of bad turnovers (trying to dribble up the middle against three ESU defenders for one thing) and a much-too-early three-point attempt on another occasion. And frankly, Ship was playing with a short bench against a bigger, more physical team, and I imagine some of the guys were getting a little gassed at that point. The game-winning shot was simply a misplay by the defender. He went airborne way too early for the block and sailed by Millirons, leaving him wide open. Overall, it was a very good effort for Ship. Given the way the matchups looked on paper, I really didin't expect Ship to be within 10 points of ESU.

There's a ton of parity in East this year. I think we'll be seeing plenty of close games and come playoff time, numerous tiebreakers will be needed to sort it all out.
