Ship does its level best to blow a 19-point second-half lead, but escapes at Mansfield, 82-78.
The Raiders' bench did look very thin. But they still put five guys in double digits, including redshirt freshman Jackson Boone, who scored 10 in 9 minutes of action. Markus Frank takes only seven shots, but Timmy Conner scores 18 and nails some huge foul shots late.
Sterling Scott with 18 for Mansfield, which showed some grit in coming back from 57-38 to 78-78. Ty Crespo scores 10 against his old teammates, and I would expect him to be a regular starter going forward.

ESU escapes The Raider Dome with a split last night. The Women are still very much a work in progress, committing 21 turnovers in a 70-69 loss. The Men forced overtime, and won it 90-87 on an Ethan Millirons 3-pointer. Ship's Marcus Frank scored 33 points after dropping 31 on ESU last February. He's the real deal.

Last night's OT loss to ESU was the ninth Ship game decided by six or fewer points this season, and the Raiders have lost six of them, several in excruciating, last-second fashion. Sometimes the margin between a good and not-so-good season is very thin.

I caught the end of the Ship game last night. I thought Fite actually went to a 'prevent offense' there in the final 3 minutes of regulation.
Hindsight, of course, but it seemed like as soon as they started milking clock ESU went on a 6-0 or 8-0 run to tie it up.
Do you think Fite tried to get too cute closing the game out?
Ship's D on the game-winner in OT ... how in the world did they let him get such a clean shot off?

I think the East is a beast this year...West Chester, Shepherd, ESU Millersville and Lock Haven all have quality wins. Heck Mansfield gave both Shippensburg AND West Chester heart attacks already. Some say the conference is down overall, but I counter with the amount of very good teams in the East, and Gannon by far the standout in the West. Slippery Rock is no slouch either.

Shippensburg makes short work of Cheyney (remember them?), 95-68. It helps that Timmy Conner came out of the gate scorching -- 15 points in the first six minutes of the game.
Conner and Markus Frank finish with 20 each, an improving Trey Martin has 16, and Donovan Hill offers 13 points and 12 boards.
Figueroa played; in fact, the Raiders use 10 guys, and Drew Sleva becomes the third brother to hit a 3-pointer for Ship in garbage time.

I understand our schools can’t really do it because of union contracts and a lack of money but if there was ever a performance worth telling the HC to find his own ride back today might have been it for BU. I didn’t expect them to beat WCU or even keep the game too close but a 49 point loss in year three is inexcusable.
