  • Re: New bellarmine thread

I thought Eberhard wasn't moving at his usual pace last night. Forgot to mention that Ferris State took a loss last night. QU has five losses with away games at Lewis and Truman left. QU may need to beat Lewis Saturday to have a good chance to get berth in regional. Both Indy and Lewis had horrible starts to their season and are both getting hot at the end. I don't know how the selection committee sees these things when it comes time to pick teams. Indy's plays Lewis and UWP at home next week. That also may determine the likelihood of Lewis and Indy making the field. Still games to be played and a conf tournament. First regional rankings out Feb 17 I believe.

They come out Wednesday, the 15th. Depending on tomorrow night's game I think we will see 4 GLVC teams in top 8, 3 GLIACs and KWC. Truman and either Lewis or Indy will be 9 and 10. Lake Superior just got themselves into the top 8 by beating Ferris last night. Battle between Quincy, Truman, Lewis, Indy and LSSU for the 6-8 spots.

Scotty, on his taped TV show Tuesday night projected 6 GLVC teams will be in the regional, 1 GLIAC and KWC. At a minimum he said 5 GLVC teams will be in.

Well Truman just got themselves in, beating Parkside. LSSU put themselves back on the bubble losing to GVSU. Think it will be, BU, USI, Ferris, KWC, Findlay, Quincy, Truman, UWP in top 8. Lewis, Indy and LSSU fighting for 9-10.

I would agree with all of that at this point. Remaining in regular season, BU plays USI, UWP and Lewis visit Indy and then play each other and Truman plays QU. All of these games will have implications as well as potential upsets in other games and the conference tourney (I know that is all obvious). What I fear is that the GLVC teams beat each other up in these games and BU and USI get upset early in the conference tourney and Ferris State runs the table and gets to host the regional. I guess that thought makes me look like a real pessimist, but that would be my nightmare scenario.

I don't see BU or USI having any trouble at home these next two games. Still think the winner of the last game will be #1 seed. I now think it is harder on Ferris to win out including GLIAC tourney then either BU or USI to win out till the GLVC tourney final.

Looking at BU's team stats last night. Noticed something that shows that Scotty preaches righteousness when he talks about passing the basketball (like we ever doubted it). Guess who BU's three lowest assist totals for the year are against? Saiganaw, Lincoln Memorial, and Truman State.

As expected BU and USI are one-two in first regional rankings. Then Ferris State, KWC, Findlay, UWP, QU and Truman round out the first 8. Wayne State and LSSU from GLIAC are 9 and 10. Five teams from GLVC in top 8. If BU wins the next three home games I don't see any way they will lose out of hosting regional even if they lose the GLVC tourney in their first game. We'll see.

Doesn't low assist mean missed shots not necessary lack of passing?

                    • This is what Scotty had predicted last week and what he expects, barring any major upsets through conference tournaments. 5-6 GLVC; 1-2 GLIAC & KWC.

Funny the article talks about BU's historical shooting percentage but the video is more about the defense. I agree with Scotty, its been the defense that makes them team special over past teams. That is important come tournament time when there is always one game that shots aren't falling and the other team has figured out how to defend the half court set. Good defense gets the running game going and that is a lot harder for the other team to defend.

One down two to go for Knights regular season. Rockhurst - QU game was bizarre. Rockhurst had 4 point lead and the ball with 30 seconds left. Finish similar to the Duke - UK Christian Laettner game. Not sure if you can say it was miraculous win for QU or total choke by Rockhurst.

It was a moving night with Nick Holmes and Justin Benedetti speaking for the team. Videos from the 4 playing professionally oversees were also played. This year's team came in before their film session to hear their inspiring remarks. JB challenged them to win another this year. Braydon's jersey will be retired during today's game.
