Thoughts on the game last night? Tale of two halves for the Knights. Hopefully we can put a complete game together tonight.

        Thoughts on two games:
        1. Fortunately 2nd half of Saginaw game and 1st half of Northwood were not the same game! Saginaw 2nd Half was mostly bad play on BU's part while 1st half was some spectacular shooting by Northwood.
        2. There is definitely no bet er Frontline in D2 than BU's. 4 very solid forwards and we have yet to see Palo!
        3. I was worried BU's Frontline is so deep that Adam would not get the stats should garner the recognition he deserves. Turns out he can still do it.
        4. A little worried about the backcourt play especially against Northwood. Jenkins needs to make some free throws and control the ball better. Chitty as always plays so hard but still sloppy. Fleming definitely was off a little today. I say a little worried but not really much. They are all good and will definitely play better. Defense is always good.

Great lock down defense the second half - players hustling to guard the 3 point line. When Eberhard is having a game like he did, you can understand him drawing all the attention when he is holding the ball on the outside - makes it easier for Cook to slip back door for the lob pass and dunk. It would be nice if the guards could add some scoring. There will be games where the opposition will pack the inside and dare them to shoot. Can't criticize the defense the guards are playing however. Jenkins and Chitty always pick up a needless foul here and there, but I don't want to discourage their aggressive defensive style.

Guard play has to be more consistent. Coach needs to figure out the rotation. Seems like the team was over coached in many occasions.

The second half of the Saginaw game was horrible on the offensive side. Really missed Bach. Eberhard, Cook, and Chitty have to take better care of the ball. I have been most impressed with Corbett. His rebounding and inside offense have been very good and he has hit an acceptable percentage of his 3's (although I am concerned that he not become overly enamored with the 3). He was more of a finess player in d1, but he seems to have embraced being more of a 4 for BU. This may be looking a gift horse in the mouth, but Eberhard has got to eliminate the stupid pass attempts.

The first half of the Northwood game was bad defensively, although Northwood made probably three or four baskets on bad shots that went in. The defense was lacking, however, and that was plain to see when we came out and smoothered them to start the second half. I agree with the concern about the guard play. If Chitty does not get his Chit together, he is going to be seeing a lot of pine time. I was disappointed in Flemming's shooting in the Northwood game. He had some good looks and could not hit. Jenkins can get to the rim, but right now he looks really uncomfortable shooting from the perimeter. Very unusual to see a Bellarmine team without much scoring punch from the guard position. Penn may end up playing more than expected.

Looking at the results from the weekend, #2,#3 & #4 teams all posted a loss. Early in the season, and not much weight can be ascribed to polls at this point.

Jenkins is not your answer at the point, not sure who is, cant shoot and makes bad decisions, seems to play for himself.

Cook is to good of a player to get 12 minute the first game and 18 the second. The debacle at the end of the first half of Saturdays game was all on the coaches

Check the BU men's basketball website. All games are broadcast on WKRD radio (970 am in Louisville) streaming video is via KY Wesleyan's website - it will all be listed when you go to BU men's basketball schedule online.

The first game was hare to find 970 had the Trinity Game, BTW WKRD is 790.

True -- 970 AM is WGTK, and it's the home for nearly all of the Bellarmine men's games. If there's a conflict, in past seasons at least, the BU radio broadcast could then be found on 94.7 (WFIA).

By the way, I also agree with you that Cook should be playing more.

Agree with you to a point, but the idea that Jenkins is playing for himself is not fair or accurate. I don't think he is a natural 1 and he may press to hard at times, but he does lead the team in assists and is shooting 64% from the field. His biggest problem so far has been freethrow shooting, but that will get better. He hadn't played in a game for a year, so a little rust is expected.

Cook's PT will increase. His stats for two games show he has led the team in offensive efficiency. The question is who gives up minutes? I think that much of the playing time for everyone is driven by defense. A defensive lapse gets you pulled. Most of what Scotty wants on defense cannot be individually measured statistically.

WRT over coaching, I get the concern but the problem in the Northwood game was all on defense. If guys aren't defending, then any good coach is going to sub until the message gets received. I also suspect that there is an intent to limit CC"s minutes due to chronic injuries.

Scotty talked about Palombizio's injury on his radio show Monday night. It did not sound real positive. His stress fracture is apparently worse than first thought and involves two bones in his foot. He is going to be reevaluated but as of right now, he is not able to practice. It sounds like he has had very little practice time with the team at this point. Even if he is cleared to start practicing and playing it seems like it would be a while before he could be a significant contributor (my opinion, not Scottie's statment). I hope for his sake, he can get back this season. I'm not sure that it is that essential to the team, considering their front court depth. In the long run the team could benefit from a medical redshirt by having two years from him after A.E. has graduated.

Thanks for the update. Really stinks for Palo, and I was looking forward to seeing him on the court with the squad.

Hope he can heal completely. Agree that a redshirt would probably be a good thing from the team's perspective.
