  • Re: New Regional Rankings

I want to see a business model where online-only income supports a complete staff and facility. Because I don't think I've seen one yet.

Is print dying? Yes. But don't forget, they could finance themselves through complete sections from select advertisers. Boscov's kept my old rag in the black for years.

If anyone thinks advertisers don't realize Ad Blocker and quick click-throughs exist, they're kidding themselves. Many consumers even know how to beat paywalls.

I don't think it will be long until the 'news' is almost exclusively online. The print edition days are nearing an end. The only people who still buy the daily are dying by the day. The younger generation (those whom actually read the paper) ... read it online.

Personally, I don't want a print edition. I don't want to throw it away. I don't want pages I won't read. Online allows you to read what you want whenever you want. The print edition is also 'old news' by the time you read it. The print edition had its day. But, that day has passed.

Even larger papers, like the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, are dramatically cutting back on print.

Not only does the younger generation not want them, but as you know from working in the industry, the cost of printing the paper is enormous. Couple that with a dying industry and, well, it's all going online pretty soon.

I actually love Mark Madden's work. He tells the truth and plays the heel role well on his show. He gets high ratings for it. He's actually a real nice guy in person.

My friend, I don't disagree with a thing you said.

The point is, are the online entities going to go broke in the process? Nobody wins in that scenario. I don't think we want to depend on social media for the entirety of our news feed.

What I've found since the exodus to the website, as far as news organizations go, is that you get less than you used to. Fewer beats. Less local news. More gossip. More clickbait.

I like Madden a lot more now that he doesn't have to play random 90s alternative rock during the show and he talks less porn & strippers. He's the best interviewer in Pittsburgh sports media. My only issue is that he's such a homer for Crosby and Roethlisberger. What's interesting is that if you pay attention in the summer, he's actually a knowledgeable baseball fan. He just can't get past his disgust for the Pirates ownership. When he does talk baseball its pretty good. I just wish one of the variables would change so he's not talking Penguins and Steelers in July and August.

Madden is the big dog. The B-Team is putrid.

My only beef with Madden is the Pens talk gets REAL heavy this time of year. The long talks with 'the old 29-er' about the Pens 4th line right wing get a little old.

Remember who MM's hero is ... Ric Flair. His 'character' on the show is based off of Flair. It works tremendously. As IUPAlum said, in person he's the nicest guy around. He's also extremely charitable.

In my 20s when I was in Pittsburgh we used to catch his show live often at the (then) Downtown Fish Market. He'd always go out of his way on commercial breaks, etc., to mingle with the patrons. Then the mic would go back on and ... bam ... The Super Genius appeared.

Looking at the standings realistically next week standings could look like this if Hillside loses to Tiffin and the other top 10 teams win on Saturday:

                        1. Notre Dame 10-0
                        2. New Haven 8-0
                        3 LIU Post 8-0
                        4 West Chester 9-0
                        5 Tiffin 10-0
                        6 Kutztown 8-1
                        7 Slippery Rock 9-1
                        8 Ohio Dominican 8-2
                        9 IUP 8-2
                        10 Hillsdale 8-2 8-2

I wouldn't go that far. That title probably goes to Pompeani or Savran. He just has the highest-rated radio show.

Post would be 9-0, looking at Notre dame's schedule they have 2 teams with a losing record left. Would whoever wins Post vs New haven get the 1 seed? or would they give it to West Chester if they beat Slippery Rock? Assuming they all win this week.

Hard to say. West Chester is taking another SOS dive this week with Lock Haven. If ND runs the table with 11 wins ... can't see them getting lowered.

Why not? their SOS can't be good and they play a 3-5 team next then Seton Hill. Looks like the only good team they played all year was Shepard. Post plays Soco who is .500 and then #2
8-0 New Haven, I would think that would jump them over ND.
