What is interesting in this NIL era is that Sanderson has deemphasized NIL money and adheres to a philosophy of giving wrestlers the best place to compete at the top echelon of intercollegiate wrestling and to best prepare for international competition. Seems to be a formula that is working.

Wrestling is a unique revenue sport that can sell individual achievement over team and NIL

      • It’s nice to see the Nits dog walk The Overrated State University in something. It’s nice to see the Bryce Jordan Center being useful for a sporting event too.

I have decent hopes Matt Campbell can break the curse of mediocrity in foosball.

We'll see. I believe that was Penn State's fickle boosters forcing out a great coach like Pitt did to Wannstedt.

          • Sacramento State is paying $18 million to join the MAC as a football-only member.

                  James Tenandtwo needed to go.

He was never getting over the hump there..

Andy Reid was fired in Philly and we won a Super bowl before he did…

If you're looking at a football dynasty over a relatively shot period. Bernie Bierman's five championships in seven years in the '30s and early '40s at Minnesota is right up there. Notre Dame's best period was probably under Leahy in the '40s when he won three championships in four years. The Rockne and Parseghian years were also good ones for the Irish, but they haven't had a national title since 1988. And Sanderson's teams have actually won their titles in undisputed fashion on the mat. Football did not have an actual playoff until relatively recently, and there were many years when one did not play two. Penn State's wrestling dynasty is not as lengthy as some yet, but I don't know if I've ever seen a team totally dominate an NCAA sport more than the Nits have in wrestling this year. They are literally in a class by themselves. Years ago, I think John Wooden's best UCLA basketball teams gave off a similar aura.

The MAC won't be outdone by the twice annual POOP series in MLB, so they're scheduling an annual Ball-Sac game.

I’m guessing this is a temporary marriage of convenience for both sides. The MAC gets a pretty big cash infusion for a football-only member and keeps the divisions even, with an eye toward looking for someone closer to home (either FBS or a different FCS school), while Sacramento State makes the big jump to show they’re “serious”, and (theoretically) make it easier to join an FBS conference closer to home.

Yeah I agree. I disagree wholeheartedly with the strategies of Northern Illinois to the Mountain West and Sacramento State to the MAC, purely because these are leagues and schools with finite amounts of revenue. I often compare the MAC to the PSAC. The PSAC has a better national presence in football, but our schools are severely handicapped by finances, facilities, and university priorities - to the point that its such a tight conference. Its not deep like others have been over the years, but most weeks any result is possible.

                          • Sacramento State must have been desperate to move up (from Ross Dellenger)

The MAC’s deal with Sacramento State - now officially announced - is a 5-year agreement in which the school will take no conference distribution, cover air travel costs of visiting MAC teams and pay $6 million of the $18 million entry fee in Year 1, sources tell @YahooSports.
No conference distribution AND paying all air travel for five years? I think this also fits with the idea that they only joined the MAC as a trial run to show they can tread water at FBS, then hope to get picked up by the MWC or the Neo-Pac 12.

It’s sounds like they had Donnie negotiate that deal….

                              • Pitt has announced it will close the East and West sides of the upper deck for the 2026 season (i.e. put the tarps up).

This will reduce capacity from (about) 68,000 to 51,000.

I think it's a good move. It will mask those ugly shots of yellow seats up there. It will also pack the crowd together and should create a better atmosphere.
