It doesn't have to be an either/or. It can be and/if/when. It's possible that we need to do a better job training police. And screening recruits for prejudice. And doing a better job of forging positive relationships between police officers and the community they patrol.
Facts, facts, facts. Washington Post, certainly not a friend to law enforcement, started a tracking project in 2015 to track "police violence". SInce that date they have found that there have been 5,645 persons shot and killed by police. Of this number only 357 were unarmed. Of those 357, 125 were black. Number of unarmed blacks killed so far this year...9. For comparison of the 357, 147 were white, whites killed by police this year...12.

The Post has locked their data down recently. They used to allow people to look at the base data that tracked a wide range of information including victim names and the race of the officers that shot. Can't do that anymore...you can only look at information using specific filters that the Post deems important. One of the you can no longer determine is the race of the officer involved.

As with seemingly everything now, there is the narative that certain groups want you to believe...and then there is the truth which is often 180 degrees opposite. The narative being pushed by BLM, certain "community defense groups", the Democratic Party and large swaths of the media is that white police officers are racist and have declaired open war on black males which has resulted in huge numbers of police killing unarmed blacks. But the numbers just don't bare that out.

Meanwhile, 34 police officers have been shot and killed so far in 2020 and 10 people were shot and killed in Chicago last weekend...And no one is protesting or burning anything.

Upper St. Clair's stadium is nicer than many small D1's. My goodness.

It would make any PSAC stadium look like dumpster fire.

PIne-Richland University is laying it on them.

If Rosfeld got to defend himself against charges, Rose deserved that chance too. But instead he was killed. We're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. But too often black men are treated as presumed guilty and made to prove their innocence. Especially if they were previously convicted of an unrelated crime.

Using my previous experience, if I had refused to comply with the Sewickley police officer and got back into my car, would he have shot me? Probably not. What if I was black? That's what is at issue.

This is an incredibly 'hindsight is 20-20' case.

"Under PA law, police officers are justified in using force when they believe it is necessary to prevent death or serious injury to themselves or others, or if they believe it necessary to prevent a suspect's escape from arrest. That suspect, the law continues, must have committed or attempted to commit a forcible felony and pose a danger to human life."

Rosfeld was found not guilty on all charges. And, his jury did have African Americans on it. In fact, they deliberated less than 4 hours.

I still see it as -- end of the day -- a decision was made to commit a crime (drive-by). That decision had consequences. Not saying Rosfeld was right. Not saying he was wrong. But, if you do the crime, ... sometimes you pay the bill. It's easy to look back at that in slow motion. Being in that moment is a whole different thing.
