I believe that IUP beat them before under Frank. Yeah, they were a pretty good program back in the day. I think that NFLer Hugh Douglas played for Central when IUP downed them.

    • Malls aren't doing much better on this side.

Monroeville Mall was once booming ... now most are afraid to go there after about 5 p.m.

Pittsburgh Mills is one of the biggest disasters in mall history.

Indiana Mall is an artifact from the 80s that is somehow still open.

Westmoreland has seen a revival since the casino opened.

Not sure about the ones on the other side of Pittsburgh.

What? You just said yourself that the process is more about politics as usual. Okay, I grant you that the people who do get in have some athletic accolades certainly but to put in a lot of these folks when some of the area standouts that I mentioned get ignored is proof positive of something really rotten and inept with the entire process.

They are certainly not merely putting in the best or most deserving inductees.

The Indiana Mall actually opened in October of 1979. But you are correct that it was staple of the 1980s Indiana.

Wasn't the Monroeville Mall where they filmed the 1978 film Dawn of the Dead?

I remember the name Billy Joe associated with Central State. I think he played at Coatesville and was a PIAA legend. I could google it but I don't feel like it.

            • It's actually a real old Mall. I shopped there a lot. Mostly at Boscov's. Of course, they built the Town Center place right up the street, and there has been a lot of commercial growth to the west on 30. KOP is a different kind of mall - it thrives with all of the designer stores and it's a destination. Post COVID - who knows, though.

              • IUP just tweeted that there will be a 'major' announcement regarding the baseball program tomorrow.

Logic would probably say a coaching change after this years disaster although they typically don't hype a firing with teaser posts.

I just heard from a source that Nolan Ryan found college eligibility in his dossier and he is signing on to throw the heat.

Maybe Jeff Ditch is making a return?

                    Maybe it's a large endowment.

I said nothing of the sort. I was simply explaining to you the process the hall of fame uses to select inductees. If you have someone in mind who you think is deserving, contact the board and submit the information. When someone is nominated, the board reviews stats, news stories, testimonies, etc. about the person and then talk about it and vote. It's nothing nefarious. It's not done in a back alley with money exchanged.

That's your experience. For every hall of fame in America, there are people who believe someone has been, or is being, snubbed. Because someone you believe should be in the hall of fame is not in, that's not proof that something is crooked. That's just your experience. I would encourage you to contact the board and nominate the people you feel are deserving. For all we know, they are truly being overlooked.

You do know Jeff passed away last year, right?

New coach. They quietly advertised the job a few weeks ago.

Holy! I did not know that. Just looked it up and it said he was only 53. Any idea what happened to him. I can't believe that. Was that mentioned in the local edition? I don't recall that one.

I believe it was a heart attack.

Makes sense. The new(ish) AD does seem to care about the non-revenue sports more so than IUP has in the past. I doubt they will ever sink the funds in to be a top tier program in baseball, but being a dumpster fire is an embarrassment to the athletic department as a whole.

It really could be a sleeping giant program if they found the right coach. Everything is in place. The softball program took a big step this past season with a very young team. The ladies should be a very tough out for the next several years. Baseball seems like a total reboot.

                              • Speaking of baseball, Seton Hill rebounded from its loss in the PSAC Championship and won the Regional. The Griffins now advance to the D2 College World Series.
