I draw some hope in the fact that (to paraphrase what someone pointed out in the coaching carousel thread) there are a bunch of LB/DB/DL coaches around the league who are presumably looking to move up the ladder. Maybe one of them decides to take a crack at it.
My guess is Sheptock will call the Defense. He wants to play his style of defense. Whenever there is a void in a spot Sheptock has taken on the burden. He started as Coach of the special teams last year and ended the year as the Offensive Coordinator.

That doesn’t really reassure me for two reasons
      1. The offense last year was bad. If Sheptock takes the reins of the defense and they’re as bad as his offense this team might win 0 games.
      2. Part of being an effective leader/manager is selecting and training the people under you to do their current jobs as well as developing them for the future. If Sheptock’s coordinators keep failing in their duties and he has to keep doing their jobs because none of the coaches under them are ready to step up, what does that say about his ability to evaluate, hire, and develop his employees?

Any word on a new rasslin' coach? It will be 3 weeks this Thursday since the deadline for apps. Do they have finalists yet? Does anybody know?

Roster has been posted for a week, but it is still undergoing changes. Today OL Dincher was added as a freshman transfer from Lafayette after signing along with his brother in 2022. First Team All-State 6A coming out of high school in 2023. Can't find his brother who was also in the transfer portal and played as a freshman.

I counted 32 freshman signees and 31 are on the roster. First Team All State RB Garcia listed as a LB, which he also was First Team All State. 10 RBs and 6 QBs on the full roster.

They also list 19 WRs. Hard to believe given how bad the passing has been the last few seasons.

Seeing the Huskies ranked 8th in the East sure is tough to see. I understand it but not sure its accurate.

A quick look at 2023. They had the big win vs Shepard and I think that proved to them they could win games vs the top teams in the East. West Chester went to OT. East Stroudsburg, Ship and LH where all 1 possession games. Win vs Millersville

Remaining healthy is key but they return a good number of guys who had significant playing time. If the new OC can find a way to put up some points the D will hold them in games. I am sure there will be many tight games this year but hopefully the experience of winning against a ranked team last year will give them the confidence to pull through. Need to get off to a quick start but i dont think having a winning season is out of the question.

"Bloom fell behind by not recruiting solid players from the transfer portal. Unlike Lock Haven Shepard, West Chester, and some PSAC West teams Some teams killed it in the portal this year. Bloom isn't bringing in many players from the portal. They lost their Starting Tight End, Star running back, and a starting Dback to the portal, so it wasn't the best year for them in portal recruitment. However, signing the local star Garcia, who will probably start and see considerable time as a freshman at Linebacker, is a good addition for Bloom. Other than Garcia, the first-year class is another average one, but I think the talent is behind that of some other schools due to better recruitment. The bottom line is Bloom needs better Portal and Freshman out-of-state recruiting to get to the top of PSAC again.

There were several transfers that came into the program in 2024. Portal or no portal.

A lot of transfers suck, too. They don't all work -- but, they all come in looking like shiny, new pennies.

The major, major thing Bloomsburg (and others in the current lower half) have to fix is players developing on their dime ... and then playing their junior and senior seasons in Indiana, Slippery Rock, etc. You're developing them -- and some other team reaps the benefit during their best years.

That's the biggest hurdle - by far - crushing the struggling programs. They are becoming a feeder system.

The problem is the lack of dimes compared to Indiana and Slippery Rock.

                          • Ya, recent Transfers Chris Collier, Tarir Young, Kasir Henry, Cody Romano, and Quan Williams were like all-star-level Players for Lock Haven. Bloom's transfers mainly were insignificant, not PSAC top-level players.

But Bloom athletics has been the recipient of major financial gifts in the past, the likes of which other PSAC schools have not received. On a magnitude that maybe even SRU and IUP have not benefitted from. So, I don't think it's money.

I think in the case of football it's a subpar HC and staff, inclusive of the current transfer environment. Same goes for wrestling (will they get a LH guy to start the bailout?). Same goes for MBB and WBB which I don't follow too closely (except for IUP).

Ultimately, the issue lies with the AD office.

                              • Here is an example Bloom landed LHUs 5th WR in the portal. Meanwhile, they got transfer players from New Hampshire as well as proven starters from other D2 programs. So not sure how people can say BU is getting quality transfers in the portal vs other schools. It appears about last in the PSAC, Lock Haven and a few other schools got some big impact players in the portal again for this season, Bloom not so much. It is not everything the transfers, Kutztown was not very active in the portal but their core and program are currently much stronger, but when you are a team with average talent with a 2023 record of 3-8 such as BU you almost have to land some Portal starters in Todays game to have a chance.
