I don't understand how this makes sense for either party.
I asked a sitting PSAC AD and they told me that there is no current talk about adding anyone right now. Its my understanding from speaking with several PSAC ADs and folks on PSAC committees is that the presidents are not interested in adding another private school.

That is comforting. Having SHU is bad enough. Please don't add St. Vincent.

I don't want to say that they're some buyers remorse over Seton Hill because they're a solid member in most sports. I'm just not sure that D2 is their best place to be. Far too often the private women's colleges who add football as a way to build men's recruitment struggle to build a program. Notre Dame might be the only exception I can think of off the top of my head.

Any negative feelings about "new" members are lingering from the addition of Gannon and Mercyhurst. For whatever reason the Shepherd addition was much easier and I'd have to think that another public would be more welcomed than a private.

        • The only Public D2 institution left to poach would've been Lincoln but they're not leaving the CIAA even with the higher travel budget required for that league for the PSAC due to the money the school makes from the basketball tournament for both men and women's.

There's plenty left to poach ... Fairmont State, West Liberty, etc.

The MEC isn't exactly on stable ground.

Frostburg State still seems to make the most overall sense. But, maybe it isn't interested. Two to tango.

So, how is the schedule going to work next year and beyond with only 7 teams in the West and 8 in the East?

Inviting another Cheyney is about as appealing an idea as adding another Seton Hill.

Seton Hill is very strong in several sports - baseball, softball, women's basketball.

We tend to focus on football and men's basketball. Overall, they aren't a total disaster. They are much stronger now in men's basketball.

I don't think football there will ever be much above .500

There is, however, a commitment there, athletically. They have some coin and go all in on the lesser sports (non-rev).

UPJ, my opinion, is worse for the league than Seton Hill.

Geez, I didn’t realize how bad UPJ was athletically. I cheated a bit and looked at the Dixon Trophy standings since they came in. We can quibble with the methodology but the only programs they’ve been consistently better than are Cheyney (no longer NCAA) and Mansfield. They’re like another Clarion but without any of the history with our conference members.

Due to being neighbors, IUP has played UPJ regularly since the early 80s (most years). It was a non-conference game but it was a nice short trip for both.

That's probably the closest rival they have.

UPJ does have a solid wrestling program.

His source is a current PSAC head football coach he knows and folks in the SVC athletic department. So I don't know. I'm not saying either of our connections are lying lol. I'm sure SVC is probably trying to help grow any rumors and conversations of it internally.

I don't think this would make sense for any party.

What I can tell you is that there are people at SVC who have delusional aspirations regarding football there. Specifically the new athletic director. That is something that I can absolutely confirm. Athletically, this guy does not want to stay as a D3 school. Now whether that ever changes or not, I don't know. But he believes he can lure - and I'm not making this up lol - Mike Shanahan away from Curt Cignetti to be the head football coach at SVC. Mike Shanahan will eventually be a head coach. But it's not going to be at SVC lol.

Am I mistaken here, but wasn't there talk a while back about Salisbury University wanting to move up to D2 and had interest in joining the PSAC? I recall that being a conversation on here. I just can't remember if that was us just spit balling or if there was an actual rumor there.

That would make way more sense than a SVC.

Certainly a viable-ish candidate but travel is an issue. Gannon to Salisbury, for instance, is 8 hours each way (probably longer in a bus).

As I recall that notion was largely just message board babbling.

                            • Two questions: why did SVC drop football, and any chance we add frostburg or fairmont this year?

The presidents of the schools vote on membership and in most if not all cases take advice from their AD.
