Wasn't really hard to say he'd go for the bigger paycheck.

Losing THE coach....a few assistants....AND some players may really put a kink in things. Hopefully just a minor setback.

There are some coaches that really love their programs and town and will not leave for anything. They simply can not be bought.

But regarding Carthel.....he said it clearly...his wife is 1st, then his kids, then his coaching. So this decision was for his family first & foremost.

Plus, living in Nacogdoches is no different than Commerce. Both small sleepy towns where they roll up the sidewalks by 6pm every evening. The town looks pretty much the same today as it did 20 years. Just a few more abandoned buildings on the south side from businesses shutting down. All the growth is about 20 miles south in Lufkin

Here are the guys that applied for the McNeese job. Some interesting names on this list.

Carthel and Will Wagner standing out... Starting to look like Colby was more than ready to get out of Commerce given the chance.

This is a fairly common argument within the city as well. The population of the city is small, but with the student population added it becomes a semantics question of what level makes a town small. Also, the school was historically a commuter school, but has transitioned to more on campus students over time. It still has a commuter presence, but it isn't as strong as it was even just 10 years ago. Either way, depending on how you define small town you can make any argument.

                              1k or less is small.

If you have your own walmart or grocery store, if you have more that 1 store to purchase food at your not small.

My home town is 1200 people, its 45 miles from anywhere else, thats small!

Has the statue of Colby been toppled in the Commerce Main Street area much like the Russians toppled their statues of Lenin thirty years ago? Or the Iraqis with Saddam? Libyans with Qadaffi?

Seriously, did you all think Colby was going to be a long term deal at Commerce?
