Hell it only took Nesbitt one year to drop WT down several levels. Hope y'all have a better experience that WTs

True, but it's not like Lewis inherited a playoff team. Barry Switzer could've been a better comparison but lack of sleep does that.

Why not promote from within instead of bringing in an outside coach?

The unknown that could still go south is better than hiring a guy who has won 1 conference championship in his entire career. Yeah wrap your mind around that.

Oh yeah it was because it was Rice. Last time I checked there are other HC jobs besides Rice.
I hear what you're saying but look how well Colby panned out for Commerce and there was nothing in his track record that showed him as a "proven winner" before he took the job at Commerce. He had been the DC for WT between '06 - '13 and defense was WT's weakest area. WT's scheme was to outscore their opponent and that never seems to work out too well in the POs. You have to be able to stop your opponent and WT's defenses under Carthel always fell short.

If you can refresh our memories here. Did Commerce hire Morris ONLY because he had the Div 1/FBS experience on his resume? Certainly it wasn't his record at Baylor or Kentucky. Or did he stand out compared to other applicants because they were not good and he was like the best of a not so good pool of coaches?

Carlton Cooper made that hire. There's no telling. From what I heard, he was doing all kinds of crazy stuff there during his regime

I dont think he was the ringleader. it happened after a drug bust involving some players which made the front page of the school paper, then the players took all the newspapers. after the fact he said he thought it was great and the best team building exercise he could have imagined. Then he paid for them out of his own pocket.

The funniest part of that entire story was Carlton Cooper saying something to the effect of "Our players aren't smart enough to come up with that kind of a plan on their own...."

That is a good thing. He can recruit kids via Facebook & Twitter!

THIS is what you want to hear in a call from your new HEAD COACH:

"David Bailiff. Head Coach. Texas A&M Commerce. I was told to call you by our Athletic Director. Just want you to know I am not coming in and changing things. I am going to learn HOW TO WIN from you guys".

David Bailiff may turn out to be a successful hire at East Texas-Commerce. He won't have the tough academic standards for the students at TAMUC like he had at Rice.

Yes, he was an unknown commodity. But, he had been around success and so he knew what needed to be done. I would rather have an unknown commodity than a mediocre track record. As I stated earlier. excitement and optimism are void of this hire unless you are diehard blue and gold kool aid drinking sunshade wearing homer. Cautiously optimistic is the term I use every year before Tech's Defense takes the field.

I should've bet Pops a steak dinner that KK would be gone if things didn't change. Pops was sure that they wouldn't let him go because of the money left in the contract. Hmmm Nostrapopus should have gotten a better read from the stars over Lubbock. Hahahaha
