Deeper maybe, seems about the same size and speed though. I guess if the 2 new guards pan out w ecould have a potential lineup without Dante or Glover - White, Foster and malik with Cobo and Nkumsah should be pretty fast, but I don't see that line-up happening much, if at all - mostly I see this team as the same as last year only a bit better. The returning players should improve some , esp Malik, and the new guys will replace Spain and Cottrell. Wil lthey gel ? that's the question

I tend to agree. Other than maybe one the new guys pushing Hutton out of the lineup I don't see much change in the backcourt. Joe plays 8 guys max once he establishes his rotation so half those guards won't see the floor. Brandwijk looks like a nice pickup but with that group of bigs Danielak is still going to spend a lot of time playing the 5 spot and the team would be much better served if he could strictly be a stretch 4.

Redshirts and walk-ons have a tendency to not return in this program lately so we'll see what happens with Bearer, Luciano, Rouse and Nkumsah. Rouse was a very late add last year after CJ left the team. Joe was pretty high on Bearer two years ago so who knows on him. Nkumsah and Luciano may have a shot of sticking (and eventually playing). Nkumsah is bigger (height/weight) than Tevin Hanner but we haven't seen him play yet. He likely wasn't going to redshirt last year had he not had the knee injury in camp. None of the four were receiving scholarship money last season. I still tend to think they add one more to this incoming class -- although the money is getting pretty stretched at this point. The roster above is instantly bigger, deeper and faster than this past year.

From the look of Brandwijk's highlights, IUP shouldn't be struggling too much against players like Sleva anymore.

You could definitely see a little 'swagger' in his game film. To be honest, it was refreshing. I thought the past two teams have been kind of soft in that regard.

I guess with the other stuff we'll have to trust Bravado. He doesn't take many bad apples.

Let's see one more 'big' posted and call it a recruiting season.

Oh I know his talents, seen him play a lot. I just know that his off the court track record isn't saintly. That's what I'm worried about. I'm hoping he following Malik's lead since those two have played together before.

He shot 45 percent from three-point range as a freshman.

VC reporting Latrobe PG Jake Biss is headed to Ship. That's another highly-coveted WPIAL player leaving Western PA. Fite is killing it over there.

A few years ago when Cal was going through the downtown sidewalk beating incident, I distinctly remember the iup president telling the media that iup didn't have any problems like that. That condescending attitude has flown back in his face in spades several times since his gloat.

That was President Atwater, and you'll likely get no arguments from IUP faithful--or anyone who had interactions with him, as I unfortunately did--in pointing out that he was an arrogant, self-important, borderline incompetent prig.

As for crime at Cal or IUP, people get all worked up about these events, but in the end the crime statistics on a per capita basis are actually lower than a lot of communities that don't have universities. The few high-profile events, namely homecoming and IUPattys, catch a lot of attention.

As for the troublemakers, plenty of local non-college kids were roaming the streets and filling the sidewalks, including the contingent of skoalboys I observed cruising Philly Streeet, shouting at students--particularly black students--and "rolling coal." The violence sucks, but this kind of thing is the deal with the devil our society makes in return for our collective firearm fetish. I could give a damn about the partying, even if it means cleaning some trash off my lawn (which I didn't have to do because an army of students swarmed through much of the community very early Sunday morning and carried off most of the trash.) But as I said, I don't care about the partying--just leave the guns at home.
