    Re: Iup basketball

A name has surfaced as an available player. I'll call it a rumor for now. It would be very interesting to say the least.

    Re: Iup basketball

At this point I think qualifying for the PSAC tournament is plausible but not much more.

The six they play are good players but how long is that going to last? Willem and Blake are routinely in foul trouble. Joe is obviously not comfortable with Vaughns yet.

Playing with six means you can't play real aggressive defensively. If anybody gets in foul trouble it's a catastrophe.

They'll still beat some West teams even with six guys but better teams will just tire them out.

The other issue in West play is going to be playing the West bang 'em style. Foul trouble is going to mean Joe is playing walk-ons. Other teams obviously noticed Joe played six yesterday. The goal will be to go right at them and draw fouls.

It's going to be a long season.

Just pray nobody else gets injured. He'll be playing five.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't add two guys at the break. There has to be some football players capable of playing at this level. Maybe they explore some guys out of football eligibility. They'd at least be in shape.

Keep in mind Mansfield has wins against Cal, Boro and Mercy and IUP held them to 52 points.

It appears Joe is going with a 6-man rotation.

It makes me wonder how I watched West Liberty sub in 'fresh fives' last night and not miss a beat and we seem to go through this yearly.

It has to be taking everything Joe has not to insert Keyes on to the roster.

IUP is an injury or foul trouble away from playing walk-ons in the rotation.

If they play Fairmont's pace with 6 guys ... it will be a massacre. Clock control is the only chance.
That's what I was saying. How can Joe settle for a 6 man rotation? What's his issue with Vaughns? What Vaughns lacks defensively he makes up offensively. Malik has a ton of defensive issues and Joe keeps playing him!!!

WL just smothered Jolle. Can IUP do the same?

Take Jolle away and IUP can win.

Joe seemed wishy-washy about Daunte but it's definitely official now. I thought it was a grind of a game. I don't know if I can agree it was their best. Malik needs to control himself and not take the bad fouls. Why does Vaughns not play more??? They virtually ran with 6 guys today, especially the second half. They've got a big game looming but have some time to get ready!

Yep .. he had 31 last night. If he made his easy shots ... probably 45.

It will be interesting how the game is called in the KCAC. If it's called tight, IUP can stay in it. If it's a run and gun, IUP will be blown out.

Joe's best bet is to play at Gannon pace against Fairmont. There's zero chance to beat them playing that fast pace. IUP doesn't have that speed.

Fairmont isn't as good as last year but they are still very good. They lost a key post player for the season. They don't press near as much as last season under Calhoun.

Jolley will get 30 at IUP. The key will be defending the others. I mentioned on the other thread the MEC refs just let them play. It was refreshing to watch. The PSAC crews call EVERYTHING. Recall Fairmont's whole team got in foul trouble up here last year but they still escaped in OT.
Jolley is a talent, but from where I sit, it almost doesn't matter how the defense is on him...he takes ill-advised shots (makes them) and takes wide open ones (misses more than should)... tough match up, but shot selection very questionable... In fact last year, he shot 37% from field...135-360.

I think they lost two really good ones from last year's team...Bingaya-D1 transfer, I think MEC POY...and Wimbush--who I thought was their key last year... And glue guy, PG Shammgod Wells

Was surprised at Fairmont's win over WJ, from looking at comparative scores...

    WL has Fairmont Saturday...

Fairmont dodges no one...Tough a$$ schedule

We'll get a better idea of the direction of this season coming up. If Daunte doesn't play then... yikes!!! Can Malik and Glover pick up those duties more regularly? Can Malik stay out of foul trouble? Can Anthony White play? Is there an off roster addition looming? TBC
