Up Next on the men's side:

Slippery Rock at UPJ - The Mountain Cats play sound enough to frustrate the Rock. UPJ is much better than its record. If SRU can turn this in to a ground-and-pound 40 minutes it will be a physical mismatch. UPJ has lost more close games than probably anybody in the country. The Rock has a showdown with Edinboro looming on Saturday ... best not get caught looking ahead. SRU is probably too deep for UPJ's short bench. Rock -7

Mercyhurst at Gannon - Strange things happen in these types of games. Mercyhurst has a history of making teams dysfunctional. The Lake Show needs to show some life. Mercyhurst appears on course for another disappointing season -- although a win at the Hammermill would ease the pain. Expect the Lakers to put up a spirited battle but -- end of day -- Gannon just has better players (and more of them). Gannon -5 in a defensive street fight.

IUP at California - The Crimson Hawks seem to love close games and the dramatic ending. This one could be no different. That said, Cal loves to let teams shoot. Letting IUP shoot will be a major problem for the home team. Cobo Diaz will be a tough challenge for the Vulcans -- not many players of his size and basketball skill at this level who basically play a guard/forward role. For the long-time PSAC fans this is still seen as a big night -- not so much with the younger crowd. The women's matchup has stolen the spotlight from the men's series in recent years. IUP was won 9 of the last 10 in the series including the past 7 meetings. Cal will be up for the game. In the end, IUP is a little too strong. IUP -5

Clarion at Edinboro -- If the Golden Eagles get in to foul trouble ... it may resemble Norman Dale's Hickory team playing with 4 players. Clarion 'dressed' 7 players in its last game. No idea if it's injury-related, players bailing or what. The Golden Eagles played Gannon tough for a half but likely ran out of steam as they got walloped in the second half. Edinboro's likely to lay a big number on them in this one. Fighting Scots -17

Bloomsburg at Seton Hill -- The Griffins are better than people think as this past Saturday's win over Cal can attest. They just struggle putting a full 40 minutes together. At the same time, Bloomsburg is also a good, solid team. The Huskies are a strong defensive team. If Bloom can shut down Trevor Blondin, the Huskies should escape Greensburg with a comfortable victory. Bloom -8

Tough loss for slippery rock. They missed two free throws with one second left in regulation.

Check out the UPJ vs SRU box score. Game went OT.

UPJ played 6 players .... 4 of which played all 45 minutes.

                          That's incredible.

                            Up Next - PSAC West

Millersville at Gannon - The Golden Knights are red hot -- winners of 8 straight. Millersville (6-12) has been tough at times this season -- and awful at others. A tough 7-game stretch follows for GU. The Marauders keep this close for a bit but not close enough. Gannon -9

Edinboro at Slippery Rock - The Fighting Scots looked a little hung over against Clarion. Slippery Rock missed three straight foul shots at the end of regulation -- ultimately losing to UPJ in overtime. Very interesting match-up in this one at Morrow Field House. The Rock is going to have a monstrous advantage in the post. Edinboro's guard trio better not miss many shots. SRU's defense will wreck some havoc and there's no answer on the Edinboro roster for Micah Till. It's imperative for Edinboro to start fast in this game. SRU is a deadly team if it dictates the pace. Seems like this would be a logical Saturday night, primetime game. Instead, it will be at 3 p.m. in front of nobody. The Rock is tough at home. Till will have a stat sheet field day. SRU is in the early stages of a brutal stretch and needs this one. The Rock has proven it can play with anybody -- but's it's also proven it can't finish games out. Guards win in basketball. Edinboro's are much better. Fighting Scots get a rare win at Morrow. Edinboro -2

UPJ at Seton Hill -- Call this the Iron Man game. Both teams are solid through the first 5-6 players. Neither has a bench. This will be an easy one for the scorekeepers. There won't be many substitutions. UPJ is slowly turning the corner and finishing some games -- winners of two straight (Mercyhurst and SRU). The Griffins are tough in most games for about 30 minutes -- until they run out of steam and there's no bench. Seton Hill will stay in this game but Issac Vescovi will be a major problem. UPJ gets the road win -- in a tight one. UPJ -7

California at Mercyhurst -- Polar opposites. Mercyhurst has very limited offense. Cal plays very limited defense. It's still baffling Cal Coach Kent McBride elected to start the IUP game in a soft zone -- and stayed in it far too long. The Lakers' 'junk' defense will frustrate Cal. Offensively, Cal is at its best in a fast-tempo, run-and-gun style game. It's a difficult task to play that way against Mercyhurst. The Lakers thrive in confusion, and as Joe Lombardi says, they make everybody 'dysfunctional.' on offense. Tough game to call. Cal scores just enough to win. Vulcans -2

Clarion at IUP -- The only night game in the PSAC, on paper, this certainly appears a mismatch. On the court, however, who knows. IUP loves the dramatic -- nearly every night. The Crimson Hawks don't put people away. Extended mental lapses and continued self-inflicted wounds keep many opponents in games far longer than they should. There's no better example than what happened at the Angelo Dome. This should be a blowout but it probably won't. Clarion, which has a history of playing Joe tough, sticks around for awhile -- but IUP has far too much. IUP -10 in what likely will be a closer game than many think (or should be).

IUP -10?? If you're giving those odds, I'll allocate a large sum on the Hawks. Clarion's lone D-II win is at home against a 4-win CIAA team. They are a winless team in a weaker-than-normal PSAC West.

I actually think its a stronger than normal PSAC West when you consider the average strength. The problem is that there isn't one clearly superior team. Clarion is winless in the conference but with an obviously depleted roster is still giving a good fight until their limited reserves wear them down. Its just like PSAC West football.
