Would having the GLIAC in region 1 encourage teams to improve, or does it prevent that?
I don't think it makes a big difference either way.

By complaining about moving the GLIAC over into region 1, they are acknowledging the faults of their programs and also the mentality that many northeastern fans have toward football. The fact that GV became great under a coach who grew up and went to college in Massachusetts has always been a surprise to me. People are sometimes afraid of what they know they either can’t have or would have a very tough time having.

No one really did complain and even in 2003 (when they were shifted) no one complained about them either. That is a misconception some posters have. The NE-10 decided to participate in the playoffs, and it was easiest to shift the GLIAC to the next region. Where was the NE-10 going? They are the easternmost conference.

I think having the GLIAC in this region, or another conference that does have programs that are elite and fully funded, will encourage other programs to improve.

I just don't like their mindset that we are not trying hard enough, or we are a D-3 conference. There are many factors in play for each conference. One said D-2 shouldn't be losing recruits to D-3. It happens in the PSAC east because of the lack of scholarships and the money those D-3 schools can offer. I was one! I had better financial packages from some D-3 schools than I did from the PSAC schools. Money does talk. Most players will not turn football into a career. Just things that are in play, and it isn't an excuse. It is just the reality. I don't know what the difference is in Michigan or Oklahoma in comparisons. I can't speak on their behalf's. These are some of the obstacles that these schools here face.

GVSU did it in the early 2000s. IUP kicked their ass for years. GVSU found a way to improve and better their program. And it worked. That's a credit to them. Hopefully we can figure it out here in PA. There is a ton of talent.

Here is what's weird to me. The D3 schools around here are all private religious schools. Many offer large "academic" scholarships (discounts) that basically reduce their tuition and fees to near state school funding, without scholarships. So where as financial packages may be higher, the real amount paid is likely still more than what it would have been at state school with similar academic or athletic scholarships. High schoolers are terrible at seeing that, and they just look at the total discount, not the total price paid.

So, how much of GV's budget is state funded? What's your guess?

Three schools that I clearly remember from the nearly 20 years ago; Albright, Moravian, and Ithaca. All three were cheaper than my package from ESU and Bloom. That includes the "loans" like you allude to. What I would have paid back. However I would have taken a different major and career at those 3, and I personally felt ESU was best for me for other reasons. The finances were not totally off. It wasn't drastic, but it was very competitive.

If you even get to use a few dollars of state money for your scholarships it’s still more than any public school in the PSAC can use which is zero. Every scholarship dollar for 14…count..14 public schools in PA…has to be fund raised. There aren’t unlimited funds out there…

GV has a huge financial advantage over almost everybody but somehow we aren’t doing enough.

This is great. Love the effort.

If you don't have the money to pay for scholarships, then don't offer scholarships, and be D-III.

                          Shut the **** up.

Yet Baby Huey University has cash but is too Chicken**** to move up and compete with same sized institutions in its own state. A MAC school competing in D2…welcome to Allendale!

If D-II was supposed to be for a bunch of "have pity for me I'm too poor" schools, then they wouldn't say you can offer 36 scholarships. That's why D-III exists. For the schools that can't afford D-II.

GVSU's athletics budget is less than half of what the MAC schools in Michigan's are. But hey. Wouldn't want numbers to get in the way of facts.

And don't worry, GVSU has been actively trying to move up, and the other D1 schools in the state are blocking it by not allowing the conference to extend an invite. So maybe ask them what the issue is.

Also nobody has any idea what the hell Baby Huey University means.

GV is too scared to improve itself and move up.

Look it up if you don’t know what Baby Huey reference is about.

You want me to understand you but you don’t want to understand what other schools face…just like a Republican!

I literally just told you GV is trying to move up and are being blocked by schools which are afraid of them.

Everyone else understands what I, and almost every other person here is saying. You are the only one who isn't getting it, because you're claiming that your school/conference is poor, while at the same time saying schools are afraid to come play you, while at the same time saying you lose a lot because you're not good, while at the same time saying everyone is awesome and really good because they all compete for the conference championship, while at the same time saying you can't fund the scholarships to be better. You have ever angle covered.

And yea, I did look up whatever Baby Huey is supposed to mean, and it got me nowhere. Not sure how a singer or a giant cartoon duck relates to GVSU.
