I do like Kirk as an analyst and he’s obviously a dog lover and that goes a long way with me. I do honestly wonder if he works too much with the addition of his Thursday night NFL duties. His travel schedule is pretty crazy and when his dog passed away, all the different pieces that came out did make it seem like it’s all pretty tough on him.
I don't think Booger was wrong about the "brand bias" argument. Herbstreit, much like Rece Davis and quite a few other talking heads at the Four Letter Nitwit Network, have such blatant brand bias, it's a wonder that teams outside of the SEC and B1G ever get any fair attention (save for Colorado under Deion Sanders, which is another can of worms). But, I'm inclined to agree that Hebrstreit's travel schedule must be starting to catch up with him.

Except for the fact that State Penn has a prototypical B1G offense which doesn't exactly do a lot (unless said offense is playing "UJoisey" (aka Rutgers), Maryland, Northwestern or Purdue) and they're facing an offense which has been consistent all season long (last Saturday night's loss to Clemson notwithstanding).

And Nutso the Wonder Schmuck could still have about $10-15 million left over to buy a suite or two at Hillbilly U's football stadium in Morgantown.

Felt like I read that somewhere on here.
You weren't wrong. I think Lane Kiffin kinda hinted to that a few days prior to the conference title games when he was ripping on the ACC compared to the SEC. Maybe Loony Lane should have beaten Kentucky and Ole Miss wouldn't be looked down upon as the State Penn of the SEC.

It cost THE Overrated State University a rematch against the Nike Corporation University of Oregon in the Big Ten Championship game, which in turn cost the Yuckeyes a chance at a first round bye, if not (at the very least) the #2 seed in the entire bracket.

It might work if he gets a young assistant to beat the bushes and then works as a closer if they're close to the deal. And I would say that Belichick has a much better NFL resume than Lovie Smith...

Herm Edwards also had a disaster tenure at Arizona State if we’re looking at the recent “NFL guy drops down to college” track record.

Right, and I don’t view that as a serious consequence for losing that game. Some folks do. They do have to win 4 games instead of three but they also got an extra week of rest heading into the tournament. I think they still should’ve been seeded higher than Penn State since they won in State College, but at the end of the day they are in and 122 other teams wish they were. The Michigan game was never going to change that.

He's not going to recruit much at all. Part of his deal was he could have the resources to run things like an NFL organization -- cap specialists, a GM, etc. He's going to Saban-ize things and have staff out the ying yang. This will become a (high-end) transfer portal haven. Chapel Hill is an easy sell -- and he'll sell the NFL dream in a way others cannot.

                    Fascinating hire.

                    • Florida linebacker Jack Pyburn announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. He is a rotational linebacker. He asked Florida for a collection of things and they said no. He wanted...

-45K a month (remember no NIL deal attached to that, just so we're clear)
                      -Guaranteed to start at OLB
-Guaranteed to play on 3rd down
-Specific number of rotational snaps for specific packages

If you are asking for 45,000 dollars a month, you should not have to be guaranteeing those other things LOL... What a shakedown.

Before anybody even responds... This was a total shakedown. This guy isn't even very good. He is listed as an EDGE rusher and has 1 career sack. Good for Floriday for telling him to kick rocks.

Been listening to some podcasts that suggest a lot of these guys are trying to cash in heavily with front loaded "NIL deals" that get them cash before the summer. Because in the summer these deals will start to get reigned in due to the revenue sharing model and audited NIL exchanges.

Felt like I read about that on here somewhere...

UNC supports things when things have gone well from a football perspective. Their funding went up considerably (early on) with Mack Brown. Even before NIL became a thing, they were booming from a recruiting standpoint. Never translated though. What I've read about their collective and where their money is coming from, they can support football or basketball at a very high level, but not both.

Saban was successful at Bama due to the level of control he was able to maintain at all levels of the program and within players lives. The changing landscape of college football limited his ability to control his program and players to almost nothing. That was one of the things that ultimately drove him away.

I agree it will be fascinating to see what he does there. I do wonder what the long term viability of just creating a "transport portal haven" actually is, however. Indiana was horrific, brought in over 40 transfers this year, and hit with a cakewalk schedule. That did not work last year for Colorado. Florida State had around 25ish transfers in, many of them playing key roles and spots. That went horribly. I'm not saying he can't be successful there. But if he's just looking at bringing guys in year over year, I question the viability of that in the macro part of the conversation pertaining to evaluating the success.

Yep, he’ll be the ultimate CEO. On The Fan this morning, Dorin Dickerson said some interesting things him being viewed as a heavy handed dictator, but he’s actually tremendous at delegating and letting people do their job.

I’m just as interested in seeing how he meshes with the college game on a personal level. He’s 71, has nothing to prove and does have an engaging side to him. Do we see a different Bill or will he still stand at the podium and mumble short answers in his press conferences? Will he have the Brian Kelly God complex where players rarely get the opportunity to even speak to him or will he be approachable? I heard someone who covers the NFL say that when you speak with him privately it’s obvious how much he loves to teach the game. There’s certainly more of an opportunity to do that at the college level.

I would say that Belichick usually had more talent on his roster than Lovie Smith. But college football is largely dependent on recruiting. Doesn't matter how good a coach Bill Belichick was in the NFL if he doesn't bring in the four- and five-stars some of the other schools get.

Just his reputation alone could potentially flip a couple of upper-tier recruits or potential transfer portal gems. Not saying that it will, but having a coach with Belichick's track record couldn't hurt UNC (comma) Chapel Hill.
