Losing to your biggest rival will still suck, but still having a shot at the big prize will probably get you over it much quicker.Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014

Whether Bill B., at age 71, will be overly enthusiastic about recruiting remains to be seen. It might work if he gets a young assistant to beat the bushes and then works as a closer if they're close to the deal. As far as talking to the young ladies when you're an older guy, it helps if you have fame and a lot of money, and I'm pretty sure Bill has plenty of both.Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014

Fascinating hire.

Florida linebacker Jack Pyburn announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. He is a rotational linebacker. He asked Florida for a collection of things and they said no. He wanted...
-45K a month (remember no NIL deal attached to that, just so we're clear)
-Guaranteed to start at OLB
-Guaranteed to play on 3rd down
-Specific number of rotational snaps for specific packages
If you are asking for 45,000 dollars a month, you should not have to be guaranteeing those other things LOL... What a shakedown.
Before anybody even responds... This was a total shakedown. This guy isn't even very good. He is listed as an EDGE rusher and has 1 career sack. Good for Floriday for telling him to kick rocks.
Been listening to some podcasts that suggest a lot of these guys are trying to cash in heavily with front loaded "NIL deals" that get them cash before the summer. Because in the summer these deals will start to get reigned in due to the revenue sharing model and audited NIL exchanges.
Felt like I read about that on here somewhere...Last edited by IUP24; 12-12-2024, 09:04 AM.

This will become a (high-end) transfer portal haven. Chapel Hill is an easy sell -- and he'll sell the NFL dream in a way others cannot.
Fascinating hire.
Saban was successful at Bama due to the level of control he was able to maintain at all levels of the program and within players lives. The changing landscape of college football limited his ability to control his program and players to almost nothing. That was one of the things that ultimately drove him away.
I agree it will be fascinating to see what he does there. I do wonder what the long term viability of just creating a "transport portal haven" actually is, however. Indiana was horrific, brought in over 40 transfers this year, and hit with a cakewalk schedule. That did not work last year for Colorado. Florida State had around 25ish transfers in, many of them playing key roles and spots. That went horribly. I'm not saying he can't be successful there. But if he's just looking at bringing guys in year over year, I question the viability of that in the macro part of the conversation pertaining to evaluating the success.

I’m just as interested in seeing how he meshes with the college game on a personal level. He’s 71, has nothing to prove and does have an engaging side to him. Do we see a different Bill or will he still stand at the podium and mumble short answers in his press conferences? Will he have the Brian Kelly God complex where players rarely get the opportunity to even speak to him or will he be approachable? I heard someone who covers the NFL say that when you speak with him privately it’s obvious how much he loves to teach the game. There’s certainly more of an opportunity to do that at the college level.
