He's no dummy, either. I don't expect him to do the Coach Prime route. He will be extremely attractive to transfers wanting to play on Sunday. But, I fully expect him to bring an outstanding staff with him -- and have specialists in all areas (including high school recruiting). He's already said it will be run like an NFL organization. I think what Chuck called him yesterday ... 'the CEO' is very fitting.

The interesting part in my opinion will be the transition. The 'jump' from NCAA to NFL is extreme. So is the step back. Very different worlds. Will his implantation of NFL structure 'fly' in the college world? Winning big in college takes lots and lots of money. I suspect they will see a gigantic influx of cash from boosters and donors -- at least early in his tenure. They wanted a 'splash' and his hiring -- in one way or another -- is a splash.

Will he find a Tom Brady? Old Bill's career record with and without Brady is quite different.

He is 72 years old. How long can this actually last? I suspect if things go well early he could maybe stay there 3-4 years. Of course, that 20-something girlfriend of his should keep him younger.

In the current format and model that exists and with the revenue sharing that's about to enter, it'll be interesting to see how UNC decides to balance football and basketball.

Their collective is not limitless and the football program is not highly profitable at UNC. So the money to support football likely comes at the expense of their baby, which is basketball.

I'm not saying it can't work, but it's if they snap their fingers to make it work, it likely comes at the expense of something else.

      • Being reported yesterday that Boston College is prepared to offer 1.4 million dollars in revenue sharing money this summer to best 17 year old junior hockey player in the CHL in an effort to get him to jump from junior hockey to the NCAA next year when he reaches age 18. The reports are saying that BC is trying to leverage the new model and really focus and lean into winning big in men's ice hockey. For those that follow hockey, CHL players were never eligible to play NCAA hockey if they were playing for a major-junior hockey program in the CHL. That rule recently changed and it has been interesting following the developments of it.

I remember reading somewhere that different universities would prioritize different sports and not everybody would keep up with the Jones's for football spending. Can't think of where I saw that though...

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t see this going well for Bill and North Carolina. I’ve always thought Belichick’s record with and without Tom Brady was quite interesting and maybe more of a reflection of the coach he is. The college game is also vastly different as others who tried to make the transition have found out. It’s a fun news story and maybe I’ll be wrong and Carolina will suddenly become a perennial football power, but I just don’t see it.

People believed UNC was going to become a power program when Mack Brown returned. Then when NIL became a thing they just knew the Heels were going to hit it big. None of it has ever materialized there.

I'm not saying what I think will or won't happen there with this move, but I don't think it's as cut and dry as many think. If UNC jumps all in to support football and BB, that comes at the expense of their basketball program. I don't people understand that what is coming down the tracks likely won't allow many of these universities to blindly throw money into EVERY sport using a win at all costs philosophy.

I'm fascinated by the hire, mainly because I want to see how his vision of creating an NFL structure unfolds in the college game. I doubt he really even recruits much at all. Based on what I've read, he is hiring a GM that will manage a recruiting staff and they will be responsible for that component of building the program.

I’m with you. This has disaster written all over it.

This is not surprising. Despite playing in a power conference for football, basketball and other Olympic sports (the ACC), Boston College has always prioritized men's ice hockey over football and basketball. BC hasn't been overly relevant within New England in college football since the Doug Flutie days. The only time the BC fanbase really gets fired up is when the Eagles play Notre Dame every once in a while.

But, ice hockey? Massively popular by comparison (and I can vouch for this having grown up in New England before relocating to Pennsylvania in 1995). There's more interest in BC vs. Harvard playing in the Beanpot hockey tournament than there is for, say, BC vs UNC or Duke in college hoops. They take their college hockey seriously in New England.

I think there’s more fascination with the idea of him doing this than belief that he is going to turn them into a perennial power, though I’m sure the latter is out there. He’ll make UNC games must see tv at least. I do think he’ll bolt for the NFL at the first chance, if there is one.

Every coaching hire is great right up until it isn't.

If anything Bill and his gold-digging chick should be entertaining.

                      Lack of players.

Many are following the coach to Southern Miss.

The fact that they barely practiced in a week is pretty wild. That entire team had the flu rip through their entire roster over the last 5-7 days. Most of those girls were still very sick playing tonight. Dan Fischer has a great program. Hopefully they can finish the job.

Wow, bad week for Army. They get unexpectedly dominated in the Army-Navy game, and now their bowl game blows up.

They are the best team. Two more matches played to anywhere near what they are capable of should bring it home. Of course as a long suffering fan of Pitt athletics I’m very nervous. I hate drawing a 3rd match with Louisville after beating them twice already.

La Tech is taking Marshall's spot.
