NC State chipped in to the ACC disaster by not only losing to an in-state G5 team in ECU but getting into a minor brawl in the last 40 seconds of game time. They open next season against each other.

      Total embarrassment for the league.

This performance certainly isn't going to do the ACC any favors moving forward.

        • I think the expanded playoff and growing disinterest in the also-ran bowls has exposed a lot of bruised egos ready to lash out.

            • Should be a fun quarterfinal round. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if all 4 teams who played in the first round won their games. I think Texas and Penn State are just the better team in their games. Ohio State nearly won at Oregon, I like their chances on a neutral field. Georgia-Notre Dame is a tough call with the Carson Beck saga. Notre Dame should have the edge, but I won’t be surprised if Georgia is galvanized by the drama.

I expect the Georgia-Notre Dame game to be a defensive battle with Beck out. The Irish have a good run game, but their passing attack isn't scary. Penn State will have to keep the Boise Heisman finalist under control. Their run defense stats are good, but they've been gashed at times this season, as when they couldn't stop Ohio State from running out the clock. Ohio State-Oregon, because of the previous outcome, is obviously the most interesting matchup. The Big 12 hasn't shown me much, so I do agree Texas should be better there.

ND is also decimated with injuries on defense. I wouldn't touch that game, gambling-wise.

I kind of like JoePa, big, tonight.

I guess the committee wasn’t so stupid..they did not belong in the playoffs.

Nor did half the field if we're being realistic.

But, 12 teams makes a hell of a lot of coin.

SEC fans accomplished the impossible this season — made me actually root for Ohio State and Michigan at times. The mighty Tide couldn't handle the B1G's seventh-place team, which if memory serves me lost to that horrible Indiana team that was the target of SEC scorn.

PSU has the better horses, but as we all know they have a way of playing down to the opposition.

Four teams was too small a field. Eight is enough and 12 is the max.

One could say 28 teams in D2 is 26 too many…

Ridiculous. I’m not far from just watching D3 football. Heck, maybe I’m tired of all of it. There is no shortage of shenanigans going on all the way down to the high school level.
