I’ve never been a huge proponent of the “Lehigh is going to poach Clements” theory before because of the differences between a PASSHE school and a Patriot League private, but I wonder if circumstances are different enough this time to at least give it more consideration:- We’re late-ish in the hiring cycle, and a lot of desirable FCS coordinators or HCs have already moved. Clements has done his work close by and for long enough that he’s hardly an unknown or a flash in the pan, so Lehigh might view him as a “high floor” hire.
- Clements might have hit the wall of possible outcomes at a PSAC school. Massey saw this as the highest rated regular season PSAC team in quite a while, and they still got smoked in the semis. Maybe he sticks it out and tries to raise the ceiling through fundraising with the hopes of someday breaking through, but I can also see the possibility of saying “enough is enough” and looking to move on to a new challenge.

Money usually does the talking.
The disaster angle for KU is he'd probably take a third of his team with him.
Given the timing I don't see how he couldn't be a target. But, maybe he has no interest and is content in D2.

Also, I'd argue from my vantage point there's not a great internal heir on the current Lehigh staff. Both coordinators are old, grey-haired white dudes. So going external would be a good bet.Originally posted by TheBigCat2192 View PostI’ve never been a huge proponent of the “Lehigh is going to poach Clements” theory before because of the differences between a PASSHE school and a Patriot League private, but I wonder if circumstances are different enough this time to at least give it more consideration:- We’re late-ish in the hiring cycle, and a lot of desirable FCS coordinators or HCs have already moved. Just for discussion sake, would Folmar totally screw over Millersville for a lot more money?

The only remotely possible destination would be one of the two FCS schools in Allegheny County, but given Tort's proximity to retirement, I would be shocked.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post
…or anywhere else.
But really, IUP has to do what it can to hold onto those Slippery Rock alumni!

LOL you wish. I know some things aren't at the comparative peak of when Frank Sr was AD, but I'd love to have Garzarelli and Tort as AD & HC at Edinboro (nothing negative about their current AD&coach). The environment has changed so much its like complaining that your Eastman-Kodak stock isn't what it used to be.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post

They'll have to make two major hires here in the coming years.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post
They need to do better.
One would have to think Tort and Joe are both quickly nearing retirement.
If I was guessing, Tort will go 2-3 more years.
This could actually be Joe's last season.

My sense is that the administration has no motivation to make home run hires. I hope I'm wrong. As a fan, I would like to see big time hires for both sports, the type we are used to.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

They make pretty good hires. I've seen no evidence that IUP plays it cheap or makes easy convenient hires. The last few football hires: former FBS head coach, reigning PSAC West COY & former FBS head coach, longtime FBS assistant, then longtime internal heir apparent. That's a strong trend.Originally posted by iupgroundhog View Post
