The Draft is an amazing thing.

So many miss (front offices). Even in Round 1 ... they swing and miss so many times each year. It's amazing when you consider how much goes in to it. They (over, perhaps) analyze the hell out of these players - on and off the field.

You can understand it more in MLB and the NHL where they frequently draft high school kids.

Desmond Ridder is just the latest example. He was CUT yesterday and re-signed today to the Cardinals' practice squad. Malik Willis is about to get traded for a bag of golf balls.

No matter what all these experts say or these NASA-level metrics suggest ... they just don't know. Tom Brady was a 7th rounder. People debated for months between Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning. Joe Montana was the 4th QB taken in his class -- 82nd overall.

    It's really fascinating.

If anybody hasn't seen it, watch Draft Day (Kevin Costner). It's cheesy but a good movie.

Welcome to the world of a Bears fan who watched my boys pick the wonderful Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes. We'll see if they finally hit it right with Williams — or not.

20-20 hindsight ... LOL. Wow, what an example.

Deshaun Watson too, he was a couple picks after Mahomes. I know his career has gone off the rails, but he was arguably a top 5 QB in the NFL prior to massagegate.

And as a backup QB, if you do well enough in your opportunities, somebody will take a shot on you as a transitional starter while looking for the high draft pick at QB.

But at the end of the day, you can make a ton of money simply being a quality backup for a number of years in the NFL. He looks like the type of QB who can stand on the sidelines for 10-12 years and be ready to give an adequate replacement level performance when his number is called. All things considered, that's impressive and something to marvel at. Most QBs fizzle out in 3 years or less.
As D2 fans, we always hope our guys make it to the NFL, but we also know the odds. I knew that Bagent would get a shot, but I don't really know if I felt that he would latch on with an NFL team, at least not so quickly. And I agree. He has all of the markings as a transitional starter/back up QB in the league for years to come. He may never be an MVP in the NFL, but he'll probably be an MVP at his bank.

Look up Mason Rudolph's career earnings. Not too shabby.

              • Chris Collier (RB-Lock Haven) was signed to the Ravens practice squad. He had a good pre-season with the team.

Ravens need to take a look at Joey Fisher as I do not think their O line is anything special and will be a problem this year.

                • Let the QB debate rage in Pittsburgh. It wasn’t pretty yesterday, but I thought Fields acquitted himself reasonably well other than the early adventures with the under center snaps. I certainly feel better about letting Wilson recover fully, if that still needs another week or two, but I do still want to see Russ in this offense. The real issue is and was always going to be the porous WR room behind George Pickens. And the O-line needs to get healthy and fully sorted out.

Also, TJ Watt is the best player in football not named Patrick Mahomes.

Yes to everything. I overheard someone complaining that Fields isn't any better than Pickett. I disagree - so much more upside and multifaceted.

He won a road game in the NFL in his first start with a new team in a new offense -- after essentially prepping to be the QB2.

As stated, he also has a near-terrible WR group aside from WR1. He without question keeps defenses on their toes because he does have elite running ability.

All of that said, they won a game without scoring any TDs. That obviously won't last. The NFL also isn't kind to running QBs.

I'd like to see him get another start or two ... see how he changes with having a game under his belt.

The Steelers' defense (right now) is very, very strong. As we know, it changes dramatically without Watt (and, he's hurt a lot). So, eventually they'll need to score some points to win games.

Regardless, a QB battle is fantastic for local yocal Yinzer radio.

                        • The body cam footage of Tyreek Hill's arrest is sickening.

What an arrogant jacka$$. He's lucky that didn't escalate.

Rolling up your tinted windows and then refusing to lower them (after being very hostile) can get cops real jittery. I sure don't blame them for physically dragging him out of the car.

I agree. Not much different from what I expected. Not to mention his agent's, Drew Rosenhaus' comments which were also sickening "Just going to work".

When he starts turning the ball over like he does (historically more than anyone else through number of games played), I wonder what the tune will be. And frankly, I don't believe Wilson is much better either.

Pickett wasn't an elite quarterback (and he needed to be way better), but everything about that situation was botched. But it's also forgotten that the Steelers were 7-3 or 7-4 when he went out with the injury in the Cardinals game last year. If the Steelers plod to 7, 8, or 9 wins again playing horrendous looking football (which they will), will it even matter who the QB is? Will all the local media members who complained about Pickett realize he wasn't the overall problem and that the result is exactly the same?

At some point, the people carrying the water for the Steelers and Tomlin (and that includes both the fans and the media), need to realize that the organizational philosophy is what's holding back the Steelers. This post is not to be a Pickett defense. I just don't think he was the largest problem they had. They aren't anywhere close.

Fields had a 40 game sample of QB play coming into this season. Not exactly an unknown quantity. While it’s not totally inconceivable that he could be better with Pittsburgh than Chicago his biggest flaw as a QB, horrible pocket presence/sack taking, is something that is difficult to develop out of. If you’d like an example you can just look at the other QB on the roster who has been a sack machine behind lots of different O-Lines across two different franchises. The biggest difference is that Wilson has actually been a very productive passer when he isn’t being sacked. Fields hasn’t.
