Denny called a fourth timeout once, too.

        Match made in heaven.

Hopefully IUP gets early 2000s Cig Jr and not 2022-2023 Cig Jr. His return to Pitt went about as well as Johnny Majors.

Yes. Some Pitt fans made some funny comments in the Twitter world last night on the hiring.

          • Any chance Cignetti jr eventually becomes head coach at IUP, or do we think this is the plan?

He's not a HC in my opinion. Good guy but not a HC. He's in his best role.

Tort isn't leaving anytime soon, either.

              • Junior never stayed any place for a long time. That’s not exactly a good thing. But he’s my age and at this point you need to
pick your lane to get to 65…and retirement. Of course..there may not be any Social Security in 2031.

They probably said that about his brother, too.

My line was first, and much funnier...Try to keep up son.

His brother didn’t move from job to job as fast as he did. His shortest stint was the two years at Elon.

His brother also became head coach younger than Junior is now. If was to be a HC he should have tried that years ago.

I’m assuming his mom still lives in Indiana?

                        You’ve never been funny.

Have you ever met either of them?

My hunch is he wanted to be a head coach he'd have done it already. He's no spring chicken. Frank Jr. and Curt are very, very different people. Curt is a CEO type. Frank Jr. is more a staff guy and players' coach.

You never know, I suppose, but, I'd be completely shocked. To be honest, I don't think he'd want the hassle at this point, either. Career assistants like to coach -- not deal with all the other b.s.

I've never met either of them (although I was acquainted with their dad).

Correct, you just never know. I have a good memory, though. And I remember all of the skepticism when Curt came back. Frankly (no pun intended), the skepticism was overwhelming. You can probably still find that commentary back in the annals of this board.

I'm certainly not looking ahead at all of the possible contingencies, however, I think it's a positive situation for the coaching staff. I'm bullish on IUP football.

Like I said, I'm not making projections. But a lot of the same thinking surfaced when Curt came back. It was "Oh, if he was cut out to be HC he would have been already" and "There is a reason he's a career assistant" and " That guy just doesn't have the right personality to be HC", etc. Now he's the reigning college football COY and making $9 million a year or something like that.

I don't think there is an existing line of succession here but it's going to be on people's minds. I also don't think there should be a lot of pressure on him to take the offense to the stars or anything I just think it will be fun to see what he can do.

Curt, I thought, was always pretty open about taking a pay cut to become the head coach at IUP because he wanted to be a head coach. He was never a coordinator at the FBS level, always a position coach and/or recruiting coordinator. Position coaches don't jump from that role to being a head coach at the FBS level. So for him to become a head guy, he likely needed to drop down.
