Just to play the other side... does the conference need another school? Would this be a good opportunity to close a football program? Is that a bad way to think considering enrollment decline and this being an easy way to add 80-120 students?

No. It's perfectly normal to have one school with three campuses and three varsity football teams. Lol

No because they need every dollar and tuition dollars far outweigh the modest expenses for football. Its the small roster programs with a lot of travel that usually are budget negative. Most D2 schools lose money on basketball.

It's not a bad idea but I think the conference gains more by adding a good program than they do by cutting a bad one. If there were no good candidates, I'd rather cut Clarion than add dead weight, but Frostburg is a good program and I think the PSAC should jump at the chance to add them if they're available.

If they haven’t filled out their application yet, they are crazy. The Pee Sack is a better option for them.

Its my understanding that the PSAC learned from the Shepherd addition that its not good form to take a team from its conference with little notice...and they're getting a taste of their own medicine this time around with Mercyhurst. I imagine if any conversations happen with Frostburg or any other school that there will be some more lead time to prepare.

Shepherd didn't leave hastily. It was announced in late Spring of 2018 (late May I think), and they joined in the fall of 2019. Gave them a whole year's notice essentially. What exactly is the formal/"nice" way to do this?

Shepherd had the whole 'farewell tour' season prior to joining the PSAC (when everybody already officially knew they were leaving).

One athletic year is more than enough notice.

I imagine they would announce it during the fsll in not this summer if it happens.

The MEC is shaky at best with many of those WV schools in worse shape than our triads. The Pee Sack needs to take Frostburg (better choice) or offer one of the more stable WV schools like West Liberty or Fairmont. The GMAC (expanding its footprint) and Conference Carolina’s (needing warm bodies to fill out its membership) could swoop up the rest. A WV centric conference doesn’t have long term survival chances in my eyes. Too many schools in that state have folded and the ones still standing aren’t all out the same danger.

The Pee Sack might need to come up with a rebranded name

The Shepherd addition occurred on June 7, 2018, leaving 14 months until their first game action in August 2019. The Mercyhurst announcement occurred on April 4 of this year, leaving 4 months until their first game action in August 2024. The Shepherd add gave the MEC more than three times as much time to deal with Shepherd's departure. It is irresponsible to make this comparison without looking at the facts.

Cheney voluntarily dropped out of the PSAC after the 2018 season. They announced it in March 2018.

                            They had no choice.

Well, they *chose* to drop athletics. They didn't like that it was bringing students to campus for secondary reasons and distracting students from school. They sold it to the public as an act of financial strategy when really it was part of their redesign into corporate partnerships univeresity.

They were so far gone toward the end, athletically, that it was almost a safety concern.

The last team they brought to Indiana was just horrendous.
