Mercyhurst just picked up another match for this season. The opponent... Montana State. It's an away game too, of course. The Lakers are about to be in for a very rude awakening.

Well, they *chose* to drop athletics. They didn't like that it was bringing students to campus for secondary reasons and distracting students from school. They sold it to the public as an act of financial strategy when really it was part of their redesign into corporate partnerships univeresity.

So when the PSAC Commissioner stands up and says that Mercyhurst is the first PSAC member to chose to leave the conference, he's lying to you.

I suppose it can be called whatever one wants.

Correct.
I'd guess behind the scenes all focus is now on poaching Frostburg State.

They had no choice. There was no feasible way for the few sports they fielded to continue.

Too many also only saw it as a budget luxury and modest PR vehicle instead of a way to get a few hundred students to choose Cheyney instead of another school. There are plenty of schools that fit NCAA athletics of all levels into very specific academic orientations. Clearly I'm against cutting athletics. Yes, you sacrifice some attention to class, but for Cheyney's core demographic, its an important way to help pay for school and attract students to a unique college experience over many other options.
