Thank you Stanger86 and Witt for benefits of adding Jamestown University. Will be a tough row for them to hoe, but who knows 5-10 years where they will be competition wise. For the most part the league rescued them.
Should this thread be expanded to include the surviving members of the North Star? It might kickstart this thread again.
I'd much rather contract than see anyone else join. There's no value added again by any remaining teams in the NSAA. Jamestown and the remaining 4 NSAA schools should be added to the UMAC and call it a day
Is there even any gains made by adding Dakota State?
Small schools in the middle of nowhere, with little to no athletic success
We're going in circles at this point in the discussion. I'm not advocating for Dakota State to join the conference, but there are a couple of notable features they have:
-If they are able to realize their full athletic facilities plan, it would catapult them into the upper echelon of the NSIC (pound-for-pound).
-They are well within the conference footprint.
-They have a collection of dedicated alumni with deep pockets - I'd go as far as to say they'd be the envy of many NSIC schools.
-They seem to have gained a lot of favor with the state government thanks to their cybersecurity program, who in turn seems to be investing nicely back into them.
Now that being said, there are two things I don't like (and they are big ones):
-Current state, they are simply not good at sports. I know a few people who went there and the athletics is... bad. Basketball seems to be a bit better now, but still not great.
-Objectively speaking, Madison sucks. It's not entirely their fault being sandwiched between Brookings and Sioux Falls, but the town is not... good. It's going to be a tough community to recruit too. (However the town is larger than Fayette and Wayne, for what that's worth).
That's how I see it anyway. I want Morningside first and St. John's second in a perfect world, but that ain't gonna happen either.

Well hopefully the facility upgrades happen, and the results improve. As for right now I'm passing on everyone and dropping 3 from our current numbers.

I hope it happens for their sake - but current state I'm not interested in adding them. Honestly, I've looked through the facility improvements and they are very cool - but who knows if they'll actually get to phase two (and 3). SMSU never did.
I wanna ship SCSU to the Summit so they can play pretend D1 with that bizzare collection of schools, and bounce Crookston to wherever they may roam after the NSIC. Neither of those two will ever happen though.
Their total goal was $100 million and they had $45 million back in February of 2022 according to a press release. Not sure what it's at now. I thought about kicking them over a Jefferson, maybe even a full Benjamin.
EDIT: They received a $7 million donation in 2023 just for the indoor practice facility.
