Denver, North Dakota, Michigan, and Wisconsin make it to the Frozen Four. Wonder which team Gopher fans hate less.

From the NCAA's point of view, probably the best Frozen Four outcome as far as fan bases go. All travel well, sans Denver, but Vegas is almost right in their back yard.Originally posted by WSUWarriorFan View PostDenver, North Dakota, Michigan, and Wisconsin make it to the Frozen Four. Of course, with it in Vegas this year, probably not much of a worry about selling tickets. Hockey fans have been clamoring for Vegas (and Nashville) for years.Millsy

Not a fan of the title game start time. 4:30 Central time on Saturday with the Masters going on. Should be at 7 or 8 but I digress.Originally posted by Millsy View Post

The Frozen Four has always been viewed as a "destination" event by the season ticket holders. They get bored with going to Boston, Detroit and St. Paul all the time. Tampa has always been well received, as has DC. Vegas and Nashville have always been bantered around, people want new things to do. But, it comes down to a school/conference and an arena/convention bureau working together to put a host bid/proposal together. Some arenas, especially NHL arenas, don't want to lose a week of the season during the playoff run.Originally posted by Stanger86 View Post
Why's that?
At least with the start time of 2:30 Pacific in Vegas, fans will have plenty of time Saturday night to tie one on in Vegas before Sunday flights home. Games Thursday, party hard during the off day Friday, sober up Saturday at the game, hit it hard again Saturday night. I thought it was weird at first as well as it has always been an evening game, but the more I thought about it, it makes some sense in a town like Vegas with things to do in your down time.Millsy

I'm breaking my anti-Big10 vows and rootin' for Michigan - Denver and Wisco are no bueno in MSU land, and I just plain don't like North Dakota.Originally posted by WSUWarriorFan View PostDenver, North Dakota, Michigan, and Wisconsin make it to the Frozen Four. Spent Thursday and Saturday with UND fans and I'm still in recovery!

I have a college buddy who played against Blake Wheeler in high school and said he was a giant prick so he became a North Dakota fan out of spite, hes the only one I know and care to know.Originally posted by SW_Mustang View Post

There's a contingent that make the Frozen Four their annual vacation. Then you figure some of these schools (and probably all four this year) have national alumni networks, so probably a decent amount of people locally. I'm sure it also pulls in locals who like hockey but don't have as much opportunity to see it live.Originally posted by Stanger86 View Post
Why's that?
For better or worse - the participants this year also conveniently are the top four teams in the history of the sport. UND probably has the most passionate fanbase in all of college sports and the other three are pretty fierce in their own right. The "blue bloods" love keeping their own company, so there's going to be a ton of people flying in.
And... it's Vegas. Touristy town, party atmosphere - I've never been but I'm told it's pretty inexpensive to get too, stay in, and get around. People are already joking that between UND and Wisco, there's a good chance Vegas will be a dry town by the end of the weekend.
Vegas aside - the 2023 Frozen Four final between Minnesota and Quinnipiac had an announced attendance of 19,444 fans. The arena's listed capacity is 19,000 - it was in Tampa (hosted by Wisconsin, naturally).
EDITED to add: It's not the same thing - but Augie is hosting the 2028 regional, if you're free that weekend I highly recommend it.

Ouch - gotta be brutal having to choose between those two. Though - TJ Oshie is my all-time favorite too so...Originally posted by WSUWarriorFan View Post

The camera operator was clearly ragebaiting the REA crowd Saturday night by putting up fans of other teams on the video board - Gophers, Terriers, Vikings... even tossed a Jacks guy up there. He had them booing themselves at one point. It was incredible. Definitely something I won't soon forget.
Those two early goals by he who shall not be named kinda turned the whole thing into a big party, since the Bobcats clearly had no fight in 'em.Last edited by SW_Mustang; 03-30-2026, 04:14 PM.

I wonder if the predicted snowstorm that is coming in from the west will cancel that. Wed- Thur, and another one Fri-Sat?Originally posted by Stanger86 View PostTomorrow Jamestown is playing a road doubleheader against Minot.....in Miles City, Montana. Feels like an awfully long drive west, though I honestly don't know what field conditions are like to the east.

Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings have been updated through the winter season. 12 NSIC schools made the list of 215 programs.
I'm sure most here will be pleased to hear that the four programs that did not make the cut are Southwest, Minot, Mary, and.......Jamestown.
