  • Looking forward to getting my first in-person look at the infamous Kevin Reynolds today when Point Park visits the Hilltop. PSAC West fans have painted KR in such a legendary light, that I'm interested to get the in-building perspective. Hopefully he hasn't cooled off with age like Joe & Gary apparently have. LOL

    Now that you guys have Sancomb in the West (and Stitzel in the East), we need a new Darth Vader here in the MEC. Some of the more competitive coaches in the MEC (like Koenig at Fairmont, or even UC's Osborne before he checked out) are generally too gentlemanly to produce much fireworks. Obviously respectable coaches are generally commendable and overall good for the league. But it certainly is fun (for fans in the building anyway) to have a guy that gets riled up.

      KR was here last year and was a shell of his former self, theatrically speaking.

      I think the mutiny at SRU taught him he had to cool off if he wanted to stay in the game.

        Bloomsburg just lost to Caldwell by only (3) points (the team ESU lost to).

        The Huskies have also played a tough schedule to date.

        Granted, that roaring 1pm workday crowd may take Bloom out of the game early.
        Nah I wasn't concerned about Bloomsburg at all. They've got another year or so to go to be a threat.

        • Pleasantly surprised by Ship gettng by Seton Hill today. Raiders looked about three times as good as they did Monday. Donovan Hill had a monster rebounding game. Seton Hill had routed both Frostburg and Salem, both of whom beat Ship earlier this season. Basketball can be a weird game, especially as played by college kids.

          Bad weekend for Slippery Rock, taking two on the chin from the East. Do they have somebody missing?

          McAliley getting in foul trouble put the hurt on East Stroud. They aren't going to beat good teams with him playing 15 minutes.

          • Cal is without both Palek and Lucas tonight. This is one ugly game.

            43-38 Shepherd with 8:30 left in game.

              Shepherd usually makes games a war, and Cal missing those guys was the opening they needed.

                I can report that KR is still pretty animated, at least by MEC standards. I actually really enjoyed him from an entertainment standpoint. He's an intriguing combo:

                1. Great coach (he seemed to throw some things at the Hilltoppers that put some pressure on them and kept a visibly gassed Point Park in the game in the second half when teams usually fade);
                2. Total sideshow in the bench area (your eye just can't help but be drawn to all of his continuous antics);
                3. But also a seemingly good dude (I saw several instances where he seemed to show genuine compassion or gratitude when a player from one team or the other got banged up).

                Really interesting combo. All in all, fun guy to have in the building. The MEC could use some more colorful personalities.

                  KR is a great coach and recruiter. As much as he made games a war in the PSAC West, he was a friend to guys like John Reilly, etc. He's a guy you want in the league because he tough to beat and helps get opponents better also.

                    Cal's now without all three of its top post players.

                    Palek wasn't on the bench last night. Lucas and Arnette were there but in street clothes.

                    They still almost pulled it out but Shepherd got pretty hot the last 8 minutes.

                        • Injuries are unfortunately wrecking some early havoc throughout the West.

                          * Seton Hill has recently been without star PG Dimitrios Sklavenitis - and has gone 0-2 without him after a 5-0 start

                          * California played without stars Byrson Lucas and Keith Palek in Saturday nights home loss to Shepherd. The Vulcans also were without top reserve F Antoine Arnett.

                          * IUP is playing (7) guys -- and this time it's not by Joe Lombardi's choosing. The Crimson Hawks have played all season with (5) players on the shelf.

                          * Slippery Rock star guard Maceo Austin has already missed two games. The Rock has dealt with a handful of other injuries and has struggled to a 2-4 start.

                          * Gannon has yet to play a game at full strength this season

                          • I feel like Keith Palek must be 28 with two kids and a minivan. He’s one of those dudes that seems like he’s been around for 10 years.

                              Looks as if the West could eventually be decided by which team gets most of its injured guys back first (if they get them back at all). Slippery Rock is already in the hole, and I doubt most people would have seen Cal losing to Shepherd. It should be interesting.

                                Cal better get some of its dudes back here quickly. The Vulcans got a 30+ Burger hung on them up at Daemen last night.
