Down 24 at the half to Lake Superior State.
Not surprised given the short turnaround, limited subs, and pace of game versus nova se.
nova did not sub much also. They could struggle too, for the same reasons.

This game makes me of the belief Gannon benefitted from the pace of the game yesterday... they are awful today! Can't hit the hoop and can't defend properly as this system requires.

Also, when the 6'9 guy lobs every shot he takes.. not going to be effective very often. LAY IT UP OR SHOOT IT.. these half ass lobs are terrible

Maybe limited player but not limited subs.. he played everyone dressed yesterday and had played 11 today.

I watched the game. Gannon minutes by player were.
          29
          29

imho if you are playing nova se one has to limit the duration of play before subbing. If starters play too long without a break, they cannot fully recover even after a respite on the bench.
gannon hit the wall around 13 mins left in the game. Some of the sub minutes came after outcome was decided.

I am amazed at the conditioning of nova se.
          their minutes were
          40
          34
          33
          28

          7
          5
          2
          2
          2

I fully expected a subpar game against st. Thomas Aquinas due to fatigue. Nova se destroyed them in 2nd half.
they are going to be difficult to beat.

Gannon only had that many near/over 20 mins due to the score. Although he used the platoon, last year Fee primarily played his best 6-7 guys in games that mattered. First half he'd platoon, with 2nd string going about 2-3 mins at a time and then 2nd half he just pieced reserves in as needed.

Hopefully Warfield and Desmond are going to be contributors because they need height on the 2nd line (I'd guess the 6'9 kid would move to 2nd line since it takes him an average of 8 layups to finally convert). Mason and Rocco would likely become bench guys since Mason shouldn't even be on the team and Rocco just looks lost right now.

            • The first weekend of crossovers ... the games all start at 5pm on a Friday night. The women play at 3pm.

I get the target audience is 85 year olds. But, seriously, how freaking dumb can this league be?

Apparently playing in front of empty seats and generating no revenue is the goal.

              Utterly amazing.

It's old news to the 6-7 dorks who actually read this thread. The rest of the world is just now discovering it.

I know the IUP athletic department has been blown up this week with complaints.

It's old news past this thread as teams started doing it last year. Apparently not all, though. But Gannon had womens crossover game Friday at 1pm, men at 3pm and then saturday same times (not all, just a few times). We all thought it was because of being at Hagerty, but there was nothing else going on there those days. Then that's when PSAC released about doing it for all starting this year.

Some people at Gannon said that PSAC told the schools many schools were complaining about the quick turn around from Friday to Saturday (or Saturday to Sunday), citing injury concerns, as well as teams leaving opponents venues at 10pm+ at night ans having to travel throughout the night (or having to pay more for lodging accommodations). So PSAC proposed it and the ADs and coaches voted in favor.

Wait, people complain at IUP? I'm going to have to go lie down for a minute...

It's a money thing to me. I fully realize most of our schools draw 65 people for a basketball game whether it's at 1 p.m. or 8 p.m.

                        But, there are exceptions.

The amount of lost revenue from having 2,500 in the building to 550 is huge. Again, I realize 80% of the league would love to draw even 550.

Tipping the women at 3 p.m. on a work day is just a throw away. Having the men start at 5 p.m. on a work day will just decimate the gate. I'm sure the players love playing in gyms that are 85% empty, too. The 80+ crowd really cranks up the atmosphere. Why do they all have to do the same thing?

But, the beauty of our league is it doesn't care about generating money. Obviously. Life goes on. At least all these college kids can be in bed by 11 p.m. now lol.

                        • Cal at Charleston has to be the game of the weekend. Both have some key guys back as well as many new faces. Both are picked very high. Charleston has a new coach.

I suspect both of these teams will be in the thick of things come late February.

These games routinely get chalked up to 'it's early and they don't matter'. For teams with legit aspirations of hosting the Regional, that obviously couldn't be further from the truth. This game will likely matter a whole lot come seeding time.

The games matter very much, especially if you have a young team or an uncertain roster. Ship's early games last season showed they had major defensive issues, which they were never able to get entirely under control.

Wait until they allow a player's dad to DJ and make Steve Austin phrases over top of the band at football games and at 150 decibels.
