Looks as if the West could eventually be decided by which team gets most of its injured guys back first (if they get them back at all). Slippery Rock is already in the hole, and I doubt most people would have seen Cal losing to Shepherd. It should be interesting.

Unless Cal gets healthy quickly, Gannon is clearly the favorite in the West. Best roster, by far.

Yeah, we've had a couple of losses to the CACC, which is unusual. The East doesn't look imposing this season, and the West seems to have been crippled by injuries.

I've actually seen the daytime tipoff during winter break work well. Move it up to a noon or 1pm tipoff and bring in local schools. Give the kids some cheap swag to start planting seeds and make them listen to some sort of admissions pitch while they eat lunch on campus. Fill the stands with local kids. Let them go wild. Have the pep band there playing songs the kids will recognize. Get pictures with the mascot and cheerleaders. Autographs after from players and the coach. Sure it costs you thousands but that's long game marketing in an area that not only has fewer kids coming but also a growing disparity in kids choosing college after high school.

You could do something like this for football games. Confirm the away team isn't bringing their band. Invite a local high school, especially one where the band director went to your school. Agree to let them perform a little in the stands and at halftime. Give free tickets to that school's football team. Parents will come and pay. HUGE crowd on the away side that never would have been there. Game atmosphere greatly improved. Sometimes I think athletic staff think that a mythical extra 1,500 people are going to spontaneously decide to check out PSAC football.

I can remember PSAC teams playing in holiday tournaments years ago that were very well attended, but apparently that runs into NCAA rules these days. I think an event at one of our large local high school gyms would draw very well and provide a chance to show off PSAC hoops. I'd like to see such games allowed, even charity games on occasion. When you're reached a point where players are getting paid, I don't see the problem with a charity game. Obviously, it ain't happening the way things are now.

The issue is the courts have different .measurements. The Trey line is deeper on college courts.

Being honest, if IUP would play Cal at say North Allegheny, I think it would be an empty gym.

I think a charity event in my town would draw a big crowd if the local service clubs and Main Street people got behind it. We held a Y-Hi tourney for amateur players some years back that drew huge crowds. It would be worth a try as we all know the holiday break crowds are ridiculous. But it's all a pipe dream now anyway as apparently it's against the rules.

Erie is at 43" right now since Friday midnight. State of emergency issued for city and county. National guard brought in to help with snow removal. Highways shut down.

The University of South Carolina-Beaufort is in the area (again) this weekend.

USCB plays at Slippery Rock today at 3 p.m. They will then play at IUP on Monday night.

USCB's head coach is Ron Fudala - who was Joe's top assistant at IUP for four years. His top assistant is former West Liberty player Luke Dyer.

A third connection is former IUP player Kyle Police, who is now a senior.

USCB defeated UPJ in Johnstown earlier in the season.

They score a lot. Give up a lot, too.

Fudala has several from Western PA. Beautiful campus. Lots to sell. Close to Myrtle Beach, etc.

They have a very guard-heavy roster. It will be interesting is SRU attempts to muddy this up today.
