Sounds like Quinton Maxwell is the next IUP starting QB. Let's all hope that Maxwell and his receivers aren't good to the last drop! :laugh:

Hate how Matt has to lump the one guy in with the other two actual legit D-I QB transfers (Box and Lenny). Hell, the other guy could have spent 40 seasons with the Illini and he would never have even once taken a real snap. Not a one. He was only there because of who his Daddy Warbucks was. Just seems stupid to even mention that in the article to be honest.

Any predictions for IUP's record this season? I'll go either 8-3 or 7-4.

Correct. He got pulled briefly for Logan Weaver. That was a very expensive loss for IUP. It likely kept them out of the postseason.

Much better than the other guy. A legit D-II QB who took IUP to the national semifinals in 2012 and was only about five yards away from getting them to the national title game. Okay, he probably cannot be mentioned among the storied QBs of IUP legend. But he was pretty good at what he did.

Either way, Stockett wouldve never been the IUP QB in 40 years either.

But he was the IUP QB in the 2014 season finale as he started against top 20 West Chester. He also had IUP in the game until the third period. He did not make horrendous turnovers to hand the game to the Rams. And it can be argued had he been given time to develop in the games earlier in the season he may have made more waves. Poorly handled situation by the coaching staff that year.

And don't forget that the correct IUP spelling is $tockett. That's because he was money! :laugh:

I agree. I liked Box as a quarterback more than most people did. I thought he controlled the game very well and made the throws when he was asked to make them. Box and Terrill Barnes developed a great QB-WR connection that was fun to watch.

Never better than in that 2012 PSAC State Game against Ship. They were fantastic that day!

I remember being at the one 2012 August scrimmage and just being amazed at the sheer size that both QBs Mike Box and Pat Smith had about them. They were both huge dudes. They had to be IUP's biggest QBs ever surely. I remember Ken Ferguson being rather tall but I don't recall him being as bulked up as those guys.

I wonder if Quinton Maxwell will take his Ohio jersey #7 for this fall? IUP could double up the number with DB JR Stevens like they did with Lenny and Takhi the past several seasons.

Like every other year the season obviously swings on that back-to-back stretch of Cal and (at) SRU.

They will get by New Haven in the opener but should get a fight. The next two are freebies prior to (road) Mercyhurst game (which is the start of the key stretch).

After that gauntlet, they'll be physically wore out and tired, and, as usual, will struggle up at Clarion in an ugly 21-17 win. Several years in a row now they've struggled in that 'letdown' game versus Clarion. The Golden Eagles are sky high and IUP plays like its getting a root canal.

So, I think they split the big two. I'd say 9-1 entering that last weekend. Opponent TBD (could be at Ship or State Game).

They have a ton of talent. Unlike last year, they enter this year likely a little embarrassed and better-motivated. Some cancer's are also gone. Morale is a dangerous thing.[/QUOTE]

I maybe in agreement with you, of course barring a rash of injuries, but I think the key to a pretty good season is their interior DL. If the young guys (Mitchell/Dail/Fisher) can be disruptive enough to command double-team to free up LBs Amendola and Lloyd to make more plays at and behind the line of scrimmage then IUP could be 9-1 going into the season finale. Again, IF the team stays healthy in general I think the running game should dominate, which should set up big plays for McNeil, Gause and others in the passing game. But its just going to be tough beating both Cal and Slippery Rock back-to-back.

Not sure if this was discussed already---but there is a really nice 45 minute cutup video on youtube of Quinton Maxwell's best plays at Ohio U. I watched some of it last evening and came away rather impressed with him. Nice size. Seemed poised. Could make throws. Ran well. Seemed to have an athletic pedigree. Check it out if you want to see him in action. Should be real easy to find. I could certainly see him being a strong asset for IUP in 2019. Looks like a legit college QB.

I also listened to an interview he did and he seemed like a very grounded and sensible young man. I think that he could very well hold the key to IUP's fortunes this coming season. He should have a decent line, some very good RBs and several good receivers at his disposal.

It was reported in the latest edition of IUP Magazine that former IUP LB Sean Detwiler sadly passed away last fall. He was a member of the 1990 IUP team that played for the national title against North Dakota State.

No doubt. When you're anointed the Day 1 starter before your first practice with the team, ... that is saying something.

He also has a big arm and can stretch the field -- something the offense hasn't had in a couple years. At this level, with his size, he's basically a mobile TE playing QB.

Never saw a team change so much so quickly. The team that won at Ashland last year ... the same group 6 weeks later ... unbelievable change.

Lenny struggled with being accurate, to be honest. If Maxwell can throw at least a little better the offense will be much better. His highlight reel suggest that he can be more accurate.
