Much like most other things with the Trump presidencies, the parallels to past US history are too common. Look up the Bonus Army of 1932 and how the US government responded. The whole day is regrettable from all angles, but the crowd totally had a FAFO moment. When Congress is in active session, the building is closed to the public. When police give folks a directive in an active incident, we're to adhere without question (or does that only apply to Black people pulled over?). The one lady shot clearly got what was coming to her. Police officer in active incident with gun drawn gave her an ultimatum directive and she did not comply. If there was evidence that protesters assaulted police, vandalized the building, and entered restricted areas like the Speaker's office should be prosecuted as usual. If they merely followed the crowd beyond the barricades or into the building, I'm okay with a pardon.
Hordes of left-wing rioters attack state Capitols quite regularly (including Harrisburg last February and Nashville later the same year). How many of them have been gunned down by the cops? How many have been tracked down years after the fact by FBI no-knock raids after expansive use of facial recognition technology? Every J6 prosecution was political persecution of protesters on ideological grounds, plain and simple. If this happened in another country the US would cripple it with sanctions.

One person was gunned down. She was violently attempting to break into a restricted area, part of an unruly mob, against the very clear verbal directives of a police officer who justifiably had his gun drawn. Spray bear spray at a police officer? You should be arrested. I don't care what your cause is or what your political persuasion is. It was a huge clusterf*ck and instead became the biggest example of groupthink. I do believe a lot of people went to the rally to support Trump. But the event was a clear target for fringe groups to incite and Trump's own words made it worse. If anyone, I place blame on the idiots Trump allowed in his circle like Roger Stone, who was proven to have been in contact with those fringe groups.

General McArthur gave himself a combat assignment and commanded a force with multiple tanks on US citizens in 1932 then burned their belongings. All for protesting that they be paid the financial payment for fighting World War I that had been the standard for fighting in US wars.

      • It's just a matter of time.

I was talking with a co-worker recently who is about 32 years old. She is reasonably politically astute but when I mentioned the Kent State Massacre she was completely unaware of this. We could be headed here. And it could be at Kent State, Columbia, IUP, or Bloomsburg. Could be everywhere.

There are plenty of them in the actual Off Topuc forum. But one side is very quiet posting there right now. Too embarrassed.

It is and always will be. Both Clarion and Lock Haven have finished 5th, but that goes back many years. I can't recall Bloom's highest finish but I'm pretty sure that was when they had the Bonomo brothers. Clarion would have finished 3rd one year in the early 70's but it was during the transition to the NCAA divisions and Clarion was officially D2 and did not qualify in the team standings.

With the way things have changed, I don't think even a top 10 finish is possible for the PSAC teams any more. LHU is going to finish in a tie for 40th and Edinboro in a tie for 58th. Overall, disappointing tournament for the MAC as the conference has only 1 All-American.

Of course, PSU is headed for their 12th championship in the last 15 years. Quite a run.

Bloom 7th in 1986 and 5th in 1987 with the Bonomo brothers.

That sucks. He is ruining these events. I hope he doesn't decide to go to Opening Day between the Phillies and the Nationals.

Since you formerly worked at a NEC school what other schools in the conference can you see dropping down?
