No conference distribution AND paying all air travel for five years? I think this also fits with the idea that they only joined the MAC as a trial run to show they can tread water at FBS, then hope to get picked up by the MWC or the Neo-Pac 12.
Also a hard end date - Sac State is automatically released after 5 years. They're paying $3 million/year in MAC football dues plus the $5 million FBS "initiation fee", so $20M in all plus the additional costs for flying their team to Indiana and Ohio every other weekend.

I don't see a lot of likely upside for Sac State in this move. I guess the potential is that they do well and get a better invite.

    • Yale HC Tony Reno is stepping down due to health reasons. 83-49 career record (1-1 playoffs.) Tough job with the academics but Reno’s almost certainly leaving it stronger than he found it, as roughly half of his losses came in his first five seasons (2012-2017).

This will reduce capacity from (about) 68,000 to 51,000.

I think it's a good move. It will mask those ugly shots of yellow seats up there. It will also pack the crowd together and should create a better atmosphere.
Yeah...not the move of a top tier program.

Pitt is far from a top tier program.

If they must play in the Yinzer Stadium, I like the move. It can at least mask the ugliness of seeing the sea of yellow seats.

            • Thomas Hammock, HC at NIU, is bailing to take an RB coach/senior offensive assistant job with the Seahawks.

NFL position coach is the same level of cushiness as college punter.

                  According to the ESPN article:
                  1. He spent five years as the RBs coach of the Ravens, where he worked with Mike Macdonald
                  2. He’s “expected” to be the highest paid RBs coach in the league
                  3. He interviewed for the Seahawks OC position this offseason.
I’m guessing he wants the job because it’s less responsibility, and puts him a step closer to getting an NFL OC job next cycle.

He's also probably tired of being a feeding system to the P4. College is so jacked up now many of these guys just want to get the heck out.

On our level, I remember Tort talked about it on one of his shows this year ... essentially saying this modern world isn't what he signed up for. For instance, not only recruiting new players but having to recruit his own team to stay every year. Players are getting called by agents -- constantly -- during the season. His star player announced his transfer dang near in the handshake line after the last game.

No wonder that guy wanted to jump to the stability of the NFL.

                    • I'm also surprised he didn't get more traction after NIU upset Notre Dame. I had never heard of the guy before then and appreciated his responses after.

It's bad enough being a fan and not knowing what your team is going to be from one year to the next. I can't imagine the stress on coaches, especially at our D2 level where you're not making huge salaries to offset it. Probably about the only advantage of being a D2 head coach is that most schools aren't going to can you unless you really have a bad run of seasons.

                        • Former Waynesburg coach Cornelius Coleman is now DL coach at Robert Morris. He's a good guy and its nice to see him stay around. Would have loved to see him land in the PSAC.

                          • If this happened a few months ago, it could have caused some change in the PSAC.

Longtime Westminster HC Scott Benzel is leaving to join Manny Diaz at Duke. Really surprising because Benzel was pretty established in WPA and turned down some good jobs because he didn't want to leave Pittsburgh.

It still may. That's a good HC job for a current PSAC coordinator.

                              • HC at Lehigh just got poached by Yale. The “PSAC HC to Lehigh” panic that strikes the board semi-regularly is on again.
